Loading new sounds

Hi all,

I am curious about how that works. I know it is a very simple operation on Yamaha Psr's with the help of YEM software. It is just a matter of a few mouse cliks and it is done.
Could somebody describe the procedure on a Korg PA (the instruments would be Soundfonts in my case).

The Pa4X, Pa1000 and Pa700 read soundfonts directly without the need of any sowftware.

There are some limitations.....

Sound bank format by Creative Labs. The file name has the .sf2 extension.
Multisample data are imported. Due to the deep differences with
KORG’s own format, some Instruments from the SF2 file could not be
imported (for example, Instruments with overlapping zones).

Thanks to both of you. I see nobody seems to use this sf2 format anymore, so not much feedback in forums in the last years.
Here are some sounds, it would be nice if somebody could try them on their
PA and tell us if it works, and also if it sounds the same on the pc and the PA. Cheers

Sf2 is one of the best-known freeware soundformats and the number of sf2-users is huge, because of background knowledge to make sense of using this sample format.

Most users of Pa-Arrangerkeyboards should find it difficult to import sf2-files because they lack the know-how and a simple import of sf2-formats will not automatically result in a PCG-file well playable on the Pa-Keyboard. If you know both sound formats (Korgs PCG, CreativeLabs sf2) it is not difficult.

It does not make sense to test this accordion samples without preparation. With the sf2-files Accordeon1, Accordeon3 and Accordeon6 it is already superficially apparent that these sf2-files are not suitable for importing with a Pa-keyboard, because the presets of these soundfiles contain instruments whose key-ranges are arranged with overlapping, unsuitable for import with Pa-Keyboards.

Accordion1 with the preset Accordion1 uses the instrument Accordion with overlaps.
Accordion3 with the preset Bandoneon uses the instrument Accordion with overlaps.
Accordion6 with the preset Accordion uses the instrument Accordion St with overlaps.

Instruments with overlaps should therefore be separated before import into non-overlapping instruments, to avoid import errors.

Whether sounds you hear on the Pa keyboard are just like on the PC depends on how to complete the PCG file on the Pa keyboard and what PC-software is used playing the soundfonts.

If the individual sf2-parameters "Attenuation" and "VolEnvRelease" of instruments "021 Akkordian" and "ClavinovaMusette" in the preset "PaOPaOAccordion" are not set corresponding in oscillators of the PCG-Files, this sf2-Preset will not sound exactly like on Pa-Keyboard!

That is, because also if samples of sf2-files are imported there maybe parameters of sf2 that could not be imported due to the differences with KORG’s own format.

If soundprogram should sound the same on the pc and the target-keyboard, manual postprocessing of PCG files almost always is required (also for Yamahas sounds if importing sf2-files with Yem)

3 Accordions from there , have some issues to be translated by generic SF2 readers so I devoted 10 minutes for you and converted
them to Korg KMP format with my advanced tools I use !
In Accordion 5 , Musette was also merged there and I've made it a separate one.

open each folder and load them directly in Pa1000 sample editor , "stereo" noted accordions have 2 multisamples for
L/R channels that are treated separately in PaSeries ... Enjoy !

Thank you for converting these soundfonts into a format that can be used for Pa keyboards.

Anyone who knows the architecture of sf2 format and the PCG files and will use them, can edit the sf2 formats with his tools and without the import function of Pa keyboards so to play them with Pa keyboards.

But if you do not know the architecture of the sf2-format, the import function of the Pa-Keyboards will not help either, because it does not import the Sf2 sounds automatically.

There mostly are some limitations and than you have to prepare sf2-files additionally with separate tools - Pa-Keyboards do not read soundfonts directly without the need of any software (except simplest structured sf2 files) - a little bit of know-how always seems to be necessary for this!

- As first , I made the conversion 'cause PhilC seems that needs those accordions according to his posts.
- As second , you can't just "play around' with SF2 in PaSeries ... you have to load samples after conversion , so this will not change loading fact !
- As last , SF2 container format can be very complicated with decades of different velocity samples , different sound layers/splits ,
same samples sharing , stereo samples etc , so by definition this requires deep knowledge of this sound format that users have to study
before any attempt of editting in any external utility and the overall workflow can't be explained in posts !
The worst situation could also be for Yamaha users without the automatic utility YEM ...

That exactly is to point out - hope users want to believe that instead of assuming simple automatic operations behind the sf2-import with Pa-Keyboards or YEM.

It is not just a matter of a few mouse clicks to be done, also Pa-Keyboards do not read soundfonts without the need of any software and at least, that is no procedure to be described with some few words.

There is a lot of documentation about the sf2 format and as much free software for creating, editing and playing soundfonts on the net.
But I do not know an easy tutorial for loading sounds to sounds quite complex.
