Playing drums samples on PA1000 vs PA900?
Hi there,
I am considering replacing my PA900 with PA1000 or PA700 but I am not sure if I would benefit much considering my two-keyboard setup.
I am using Kronos for lead sounds (right hand) while PA900 is there only to provide accompaniment. Furthermore, I use exclusively sampled instruments in my user sets on PA900. In other words, all the instruments assigned to the rhythm section, from drums, percs to guitars ets.. are sampled instruments coming with user sets which I purchased separately.
Since I would be using the same user sets on PA700 or PA1000 if I decide to upgrade, would there be a noticeable difference in the rhythm section.
I guess the question is, if the sampled instruments in the rhythm section would sound different on PA1000/700 vs PA900.
Thank you in advance!

Hi,
If you use external samples almost exclusively for your accompaniment it seems to me that there will be no difference in itself, that is assuming you the sound of the PA900 is NOT coming out of its internal speakers.
If you do listen or use the internal speakers of the PA900 you will find the PA1000 a real improvement. Personally I think the amplification on the PA700 is rather poor, less than on the PA900.
Your question also harbours an interesting aspect. Could you please elaborate on the external samples that you are using and tell us where you can buy most of those? Are there any favourites among them that you would recommend to users of the PA1000 and PA700 ?
(the only companies that I am aware of providing samples for PA1000 etc.
are Dynamix and Waveart. I have no personal experience with either apart from very old samples for the PA800 coming from Dynamix.
regards,
John Smies

Thanks John.
I guess I would not have much benefit from switching to pa1000 as I connect my PA900 to a set of studio-monitors when home, and through a PA when performing live.
As for the user sets ..
In addition to several sets from the Dynamix-Audio, which I believe is the same one you refereed to, I use two additional sets when performing Balkan and Greek music. They all come with their own drum-kits and sampled instruments.
Here are the links ..

2. Studio-R (Greek) http://www.studior.gr
3. Pasha Set (Balkan) http://www.pashaset.de/home.html

Yep , they would ... The reason is that Pa4X-Pa1000 (not sure for Pa700) , use new age DAC (Digital to Analog Converter)denistu007 wrote:if the sampled instruments in the rhythm section would sound different on PA1000/700 vs PA900.
of 24 bit compared to Pa900 16 bit and the same custom samples (if they're in Pro level quality) , will be heard more "detailed"
with more transparency especially when all tracks have midi information and play simultaneously !
Of course you would not ever notice any difference using a full custom Drumkit of 10Mb poor samples size ...
Hope this helps
