KC's Get Down Tonight: Sound patch or ideas for creating it

Post by flemmings27 »

Sorry for posting what may be a repeated question, but a search on the forum didn't turn up anything definitive (maybe I don't know how to search but those terms turned up over 4000 results and none of them had anything like my request in the subject line).

Does anyone have any recommendations for creating the sounds for the Introduction of KC and the Sunshine Band's Get Down Tonight? Or a downloadable sound patch. Info on line suggests it was originally created in studio by a guitar but either sped up or slowed down, while others suggest that however it was created in the studio, it's played live with a DX-7.

Or if there is a thread on this somewhere, a link to it would be appreciated!

looks like a Korg triton could have the intro 'guitar' like patch you are seeking

there is also a claV part. Maybe 2 Clav parts.

No idea, if Casey is actually playing the DX live. Maybe in the studio he did

Its divided opinion if the opening is a guitar w/FX or a Dx7 patch

If you have a K, the Butterfly E guitar program is close.

Haven’t tried them yet but found them and they are free. I’ll try them later. It’s a whole bank of KC and there is a David Bowie one as well. Might take some of the guess work out of it 😎

Ok, thank you! But these are .pcg files, which are for the Korg Trinity or Triton - can a Kronos use them??

My other searches for an answer to my question indicated the song was originally recorded with a Telecaster guitar onto a tape at half speed and then sped up. Here's some evidence that might be true.

These are for KRONOS. I'm actually going thru them right now and they are good.

Looks like you will have to build your own combi, with split keyboard parts but I think the sounds you need are there. If you just want the beginning sound for the intro, Bank U-G 001 E. Guitar Dynamic Pick works pretty good especially when you use a bit of joy stick.
