Damper pedal stopped working

Post by rikelliott »

Hi turn my Kronos 2 88 key on this morning and the damper pedal is not working. It will work if I plug into a different socket and use it as a switch to activate Karma etc etc. So the pedal works but not in the damper socket.

Anyone have any experience with this issue. I have no other pedal to test with or another keyboard.

Help!!!!!

Some pedals have a switch on them. If yours has a switch, make sure it is set on continuous. Try and find another pedal you can borrow to see if the problem is your pedal.

One thing to consider. Many pedals these days have a rubber switch rather than one made of metal. Over time, the contact surface wears and the “on” resistance rises. So new it may have say 10 ohms resistance when on but over time, it can rise to say 500 ohms. Some systems can deal with that while others may not. In all systems there is a threshold where too much resistance no longer reads as closed. Opening the pedal and cleaning the contact surfaces can reduce the resistance. I use an eraser to polish the surfaces.
