I sold my E2S, then missed it a lot, thought about the Digitakt hard and then looked at the E2S with it’s polyphony, VA synths and portability/batteries and bought another one (red this time).
I guess for all the grief they get, they do actually fit a niche.
I still would still really like a Digitakt but between Circuit, MPC1000, E2S, RM1X and SP404sx, I can’t really find a use case for it!!
Maybe as a ‘standalone’ messing around box for the couch?? Dunno...
I've done a similar thing, I've owned a circuit, MPC500, MPC2000, MPC2500, ASR-X, Electribe2, EMX, and sold them on.
The Digitakt I don't ever want to sell. It's hard to describe because if you look at the specs it seems very limited, but sitting down in front of it, it is immediate and powerful! It also sounds fantastic.
I always loved the synths on the EMX-1 but the drums I didn't like and the step sequencing isn't my thing. But with the Digitakt I get flexible timing and parameter locks and tig conditions for the EMX, and I can still motionrecord the FX and Synth parameters in the EMX patterns, so best of both worlds.
Here's a good example of the power of Trig conditions:

Well worth watching to understand the power lurking in this little box
Btw I also have a SP404SX, great little box. Totally different again to Digitakt and Electribe. Awesome for long sample playback and FX
