Pink Floyd on Kronos

Post by fcoulter »

For a future project I'm working on, I'm going to need to recreate the sounds of Pink Floyd on my Kronos. Using Google, I've found the following libraries:

Korg Kronos Pink Floyd Cover Pack MKI - http://www.leadsounds.com/korg-kronos-p ... cover-pack

Endless Floyd Anthology - https://www.synthonia.com/marketplace/k ... evb-detail

Has anyone worked with either of them? Any thoughts?

Are there any other such packages out there? Thoughts on those?

Which one would be the best to replicate PF?

I've listened to both but bought neither, both have sounds to offer - here is a link to an excellent document about Rick and the synths he used during his career and also how he achieved some of those distinctly Floyd sounds - so if you have time to spend and can build your own patches this may be of more use to you than anything else.

Otherwise, if it were me, I'd get both sound expansions. It really depends which sounds you're looking to emulate. Hope it helps.

If you buy the anthology you get the other one included. Sounds are very good. I don't like how they did the splits or used the pads on some patches but it makes it a lot easier to start from those patches and adapt them to your liking. There are videos on YouTube comparing both and showing off the sounds. Most are very good and do sound like the original recording. Nevertheless I had to edit a few to make them even better or more complete as we are rehearsing dark side on the moon in surround sound and the included samples are stereo, so I had to redo some.

Hi,

Like Drummond, I purchased the Endless Floyd Anthology as a start point for some of the patches I used when I was in Welsh Floyd, but I also programmed a lot of my own. E.g the Shine On Intro was a lovely set of layers, which I tweaked to my taste, but the lead synth they had sucked, so I programmed my own in AL-1.

Organimation is a better start point for the organ patches.

TBH, if I hadn't been in such a rush to get a set together, I probably would have not purchased it, as when I look back on it, I ended up programming most of my own sounds

It's my turn as I'm in a Pink Floyd tribute now: www.beachfloyd.com

I have created everything from scratch. Not too much going on other than organs, elec pianos, a few leads.
Augmented with an OB TEO5. And an iPad ONLY for playback of a few samples.
Korg Karma module, Kronos61, SEQUENTIAL PRO3, DSI OB6, Oberheim OB8, XStation25, Yamaha MFC (for Karma Pads), Omnisphere, guitars by Tom Anderson, Gibson, Fender, Ibanez, D'Angelico, Parker, Line6, Guitar Processors by Fractal Audio, Amplification by Mesa, Carvin, w/Celestion V30(!)
