Main synth sound on Boogie Down - Al Jarreau

Post by miketime »

Hey guys

Just wondering if anyone of you have tried to re-create the main synth sound on this song: (Boogie Down) It starts 0.11 in to the song right after the intro (not the brass or bass sound)

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eL8vHOAp9E8

Or do you have any suggestions how to create it? :)

Appreciate all answers, thanks!

Merry Christmas and Happy new year!

Sounds pretty easy. Take a couple of saw waves, detune them very slightly. (-2 and +2)
Use a 24db LP filter, close the filter entirely and assign the filter EG to be triggered on the attack. Start with something like 78 and drop to 40ish in the EG, make it last maybe around 25-30 in terms of attack.
Under pitch, make sure you assign the joy +y to LFO running faster than default. Maybe around 72-74, and make the intensity be near 0.30 to 0.40 but probably inbetween those.

That's more or less is, just tweak to taste :)

Cool thanks! Im sitting here now trying this out with a few question marks..
Im kinda new with creating a sound totally from scratch.. lol Smile

So I'm guessing I'm gonna use an empty Exi program or is there a sound already in the kronos i can re tweek?

Im not sure either how I assign the filter EG so it gets triggered on attack.. Do I do that in the Filter tab "Basic" or the tab called Filter Mod.?

Appreciate all your help, thanks!! //Mike
