Kronos X Volume Drop-outs after 3.0.4 update
I've only had my kronos for 3 weeks, and decided to update to 3.0.4 and all holy hell broke loose with this board, first I had to reinstall from the disk because the board would not start, then after I got it working again the sound drops out and creeps back in while I'm playing. I'm a Yamaha guy, but I was really impressed with the Kronos until now. I checked the cables, vector and made sure it was power cycled correctly, but it still loses volume while I'm playing! Very disappointed

Hi there,
That's a bit of an odd one - haven't heard of that as the result of an upgrade.
Does it do this will all sounds, or just some, such as the pianos?
Sounds like something may have gone awry with the Digital Rights Management for some of the protected sounds - perhaps try checking the Installed Options page in Global to make sure everything is authorised - if there are any sounds listed as being in demo mode, that may be the cause of your problems.

Firstly, what version of the Kronos do you have? The Kronos 2?
Some of the soundbanks that ship with the Kronos are demos of optional extras that must be purchased separately. Although you can play these demo sounds to see if you like them, whilst they are in demo mode they will fade in and out periodically.
If you press the Global button, then go to the "Installed Options" tab, you will see a list of which options are installed, and which ones are in demo mode (and hence subject to the fading in and out).
If this is indeed the case, it's probably unrelated to your upgrade to 3.0.4 - it may more just be that you've stumbled upon some sounds that are demos.

If you have the Kronos X, the Berlin piano is a paid upgrade (it was released with the Kronos 2, but was made available for sale to owner's of older versions).
If you want to use the Berlin piano, then you can buy a copy from Korg's website, which will issue you with a code to enter.
Otherwise, you can very safely just ignore the demo content or uninstall it if you're not interested in it.

The Berlin Piano is a paid update for the Kronos X, so if it was previously working without drop-outs, someone must have purchased it and authorised it.
Did you buy your Kronos new or used? If it's used, then is it possible the previous owner purchased it?
Are you sure it is the Berlin Grand you've previously been playing without issue, and not one of the other pianos (The German for example)?

I'm positive that they were all working, and my kronos was SUPPOSED to be new in the box, it didn't look like a refurb, nor did I ask for one when I purchased it, but one thing I know is that they were working fine up until the update, but thanks for pointing me in the right direction, because it's kinda crazy when you're learning a new board

Troubleshoot your expression or volume pedal. Reset/save your global pedal assignmentsbbeckpro wrote:I've only had my kronos for 3 weeks, and decided to update to 3.0.4 and all holy hell broke loose with this board, first I had to reinstall from the disk because the board would not start, then after I got it working again the sound drops out and creeps back in while I'm playing. It does sound like the vector stick. Try to keep on center. If it moves around, volume will drop off since its thinking midi changes.
Just a note...
If this is the later Kronos model,it should have 3 dvd disks...the latter would have the sound data and should be part of the factory folder, which usually doesn't need re-authorisation.
However,if there are only 2 dvd disks,it indicates that the Berlin Piano plus collections etc were added libraries and will have to be reauthorised.
Contact the seller or the local Korg Dealer/Distributor for further advice.
All is not lost....a solution can be found.
Please post any updates with the progress.
Best Wishes.

Mine did the same thing!!!
I bought mine new. From Sweetwater
When I upgraded (Same version as you) it said all the sounds are in demo mode.
It came all authorized. KronosX with current software.
Also I purchased libraries. But when i went back to kong and tried to signs back in after registering it, it does not have all my info anymore.
Made me change my password as the "Website was updated"
Also My Korg Oasys gave me free upgrade certificates to sound libraries.
Kong conveniently lost all those authorizations as two completely now unlinked websites. Embarrassing actually!
Sorta a tragedy . I love Korg Their CEO sent me a personal letter for not continuing the Oasys and gave me free sound libraries for KronosX which i went out to purchase. I got hem and the KronosX as he suggested. Now They are all gone. Along with my gift promo codes.
One would think that more care would be given to loyal customers.
I paid over $12,000.00 for all the upgrades and Korg Oasys. Then to find out Korg discontinued it and turned it into a Korg KronosX with no pads. I shelled out another 4k for the KronosX and love it. But the upgrades as great as they are 100% make you reauthorize your stuff sometimes. Make sure you always do the internal firmware upgrades first before the software upgrades!!
Another mystery is why Korg does not put out DVD 3 with all the factory Sounds and Seq and combinations and waves up on their forums on both sites especially the Korg Oasys sites and KronosX Sites. Kinda stupid to not at least post the basic sound sets. Those are blown when i upgraded too.
It clearly states to backup every thing before, but why not just post the #3 DVD Current 3.0 Original DVD's for all to use to recover?
Not like anyone is going to use them on their Yamaha or other keyboards. Guess disorganized and busy composers and Musicians are easy pray for marketing to make a buck!
Korg needs to get with the times. Allot of problems and service under warranty calls would go away by posting the DVD Original sets for KronosX and other workstations.
After years people put them in storage, or in Studio Safe or vault.
Todays age is all online. Korg needs to put them in the Software downloads section with the upgrades.
Then again, I am just a retired film composer with over a 1.5 Million dollars of Midi Studio equipment. Including Korgs entire Rack mount line and almost all their keyboards.
So If you don't have the Authorizations, call Sweetwater and ask your Sales rep for help. They are awesome !! They will help you. With the Korg Serial number Authorized resellers can find out what belongs in your unit.
I found out today that mine came with the newer software and Berlin and Japan pianos. Both are Dead THANKS TO KORGS Upgrade!! Guess they are hurting for money and need a bump from Musicians who are not organized. I for won put DVD's in a separate Vault. It takes a key and a drive to town to get them. Kinda silly.
In the past the installers program Korg used would look to see your "Authorizations" and keep the codes in a temp. Then when rebooted they restored. This rev, they force the user to reauthorize. Not a big deal to most. But a major deal to us who put manuals and DVD's in storage. (Not to mention disorganized)
Hang in there. I like Sweetwaer because when i am in the middle of a TV episode, or film, i call and they will tell me over the phone what i need since they sold it to me.
Great Support at Sweetwater, they calm me down and fix me. They are organized there. Kong is too, but lately the website is being taken over by the marketing suits!! Hard to nav around and does not work on Safari and mobile IOS devises anymore. Website got UPGRADED too! Yikes!
Good Luck there are awesome people on this Forum. Moderators everyone! They will guid you to where you need to go. I just wanted to make a point that everyones Korg KronosX is different, Some old some new, some with old versions of firmware, software, or software. Some came with Sound sets like German piano, Japan piano etc. All depends on when you bought it, and where you bought it etc. People here might be able to post the files with Seq,Combi's and waves and programs from factory here. Or a link. That will atlas get you back your factory sound sets. Not to mention you have to BUY a External compliant USB DVD player to restore your sounds. or put them on a USB drive.
OH YEA! Don't forget that Korg USB Driver to update firmware does not run on El Capitan on Macs!! Thats a heads up so you don't get all mad. HA No joke. Better buy a PC with Windows 98??? Common Korg!
Help this guy! He busted out big bucks for his keyboard. I would give you the Factory sound sets and Seq, and Combis, wave sequences warm and programs. But I don't have them either. Now that my Korg USB driver does not work on El Capitan on my Mac I can't fly them in over the wire either.
Kind Regards

If it ain't broke...fix it! Because Korg put #2 Phillips heads on it.
