Velocity - compress/limit

Post by joyel »

In combi mode.: how to...
Change velocity range example from 60 to 80.

So when i hit a key.:
softly and instrument generate 30-42 velocity i would like to have always =60 (because i set it somewhere)

If i hit harder example 64 velocity instrument play 64 velocity (because it's in the middle of my range)

But if i play more harder like 90-100 the value will be 80. ( because it's max in range)

I know i could use compressor or limit it on fix, but.:
1) i would like to do that in different way
2) no empty slot in ifx/mfx.

BTw.:

I don't think you can do it in Combi mode.

It can be done in Sequencer mode, though. Record your notes, and then go to the Track Edit page. Open the window, click on the Modify Velocity tab, and select your velocity ranges.

Be aware that, by narrowing your velocity ranges too much, you're also removing the 'feel' from your playing.

Hope this helps...

Pete.

Fixed velocity range interpretation not possible on Kronos

Post by chini »

Unfortunately you can not get the Kronos to interpret any velocity to a limited range. IT'S ONE THING THAT I WISH IT WOULD DO! but unfortunately no!

The Velocity page is designed for cross fading between timbres where certain ranges of velocity trigger different sounds depending on how hard you play the keys.

Thank You Guys,
@pete.m i would like to have this kind of limit on performance(when real playing on live show), so recording before it's no option for this kind of use.

Propably i will hardly compress this combi sound ( i mean part of it).

Hopefully they'll add this feature in an upcoming update. Mainstage does this brilliantly with the simple 'velocity scaling' curve.

So is Mainstage a good substitute for Kronos Combi? Not just the velocity flexibility- but the complete functions of Combi, from stacking programs and fitting them together with individual parameter controls and effects.. ?
How many sounds or timbres could Mainstage comfortably layer together into one sound?

I don't know about the combi, but in program

USE the Gate AMS MIXER

Set the Threshold to whatever you want the velocity split point to be.

Set the below value to 60 and above value to a static or velocity or scaled velocity (through AMS mixer B )

for the combi try with the velocity curves (top and bottom slope) for velocity zones
