Free MIDI and Karaoke files

Post by jac38 »

I asked about the Songbook for adding MIDI files in another post. I got the question if I could share them and I CAN. I'm not sure I should add the link in this post. Well, of course I can, but the forum rules, legal rights and so on...

All who want to download MIDI songs and Karaoke songs, please send me a message in the forum, with your email adress, and I will send the link.

it is 7 rar files where 1-6 are parts of a larger file. Max size is 100 Mb each

It is around 1500 Karaoke songs
In the post I said it was 5000 MIDI songs, but it's more....
Let's put it this way, you will not need any more MIDI files after this... lol

(I'm not even sure the Songbook can handle them all)

Jacob

P.S. I have made them in to different groups like Artists A-Z and Songs A-Z and most likely there will be same song in different places. There are also parts I have not done anything with, except naming them...
As this is not a spelling contest and English is not my first language, I hope you all can overlook my mistakes...

Hi Jacob

There's no problem with posting links for sharing files here on these forums.
However if the files in question are commercially available or copyrighted then you cannot share on these forums as it would be treated as piracy.
so, as long as ALL of these 5000 karaoke files are genuinely free files with no copyright then all is fine.

Not suggesting this is the case with your files but would hate for you to get blocked from the forums.

Please confirm.

Cheers

First of all, I'm NOT sharing anything on this forum.

Second, when it comes to MP3 it easy to say who made it and that there IS a copyright but how can anyone know this on a MIDI file?

All the Karaoke files I have downloaded are from free download sites, I can confirm yes

Hi Jacob

That's fine and also there are many MIDI and Karaoke files that have ownership and are sold.

I was not complaining but just making sure that these files are publicly free and available.

Thanks for confirming.

And on that basis, you can offer these here if you wish - that's a nice gesture.

Cheers

I'm not offering any files I have bought, but ask again how it is possible to check, let's say 10.000 MIDI files, if they are free or not?

And when I download Karaoke files on a web site, and it is free of charge, I can still not know where that person got them and that they have no owners...

Even when we put them in to the Songbook, there is no line to fill or read about who made it and/or maybe own it...

This must concern us all here, as we use them as styles or songs, on our arrangers. AND I can not say I KNOW they are free or not, more then you can if I give them to you. The only thing I can confirm is that I have not bought any of them...

And for the record, IF I would be sharing files with a owner, I'm still not sharing them on the forum, am I? Don't take this wrong now, I'm only asking about it...

I would venture to guess that the vast majority of midi files available on the net started out being made and sold for profit. The unbridled "sharing" or stealing if you wish, is now widely accepted.
The same people who share them would raise quite a ruckus if something they developed, recorded and offered for sale was almost immediately distributed world wide, either free or resold on ebay! It's the main reason there are so few really good styles are being made and sold--no way to protect your work.
I have seen styles I built from scratch and shared with only a few close friends (I thought) for sale on ebay not long after!
I'm not saying this because I'm innocent. I have downloaded many thousands of these free file collections, even though I can't tell you why because I rarely use a midi file.
One way to identify some midi files that was commercially made is that a lot of them have the name of the company on them when you display the text.
Again, I'm not criticizing, just sharing thoughts. Same is true for song books, sheet music, MP3s, magazines, books, etc. I don't have an answer but I'm pretty sure it is overall destructive to the music business.

Yes - agree Don.
I guess that if you sell or distribute them then you take the risk that someone may claim them.

I didn't want this to sound like a federal case!!!
I have bought MIDI files in the past and they are clearly "owned, patented and copyrighted"

All is cool Jacob :D

Well thank for any type of answer in this. The only thing I want to say (again) is that I'm not trying to gain anything else then beeing a nice guy, and are not selling anything.

It took me a long time to make it what it is now and then many hours both making them into rar files, solve where and how and then upload.

Now it does work...

No question you're a nice guy! And I think the horse left the corral long ago on this subject anyway. It's great you are sharing after putting in the hard work and time you did!
