PC or MAC

I have a been a PC user since 1985 (which makes me your Grandfather).
I have been building them, repairing them, updating them and selling them.

I never liked Macintosh Apple then, and I still don't!
It seams that most music industries are using Mac...

I can't stand a Mac for I am hardcore addicted to blue screen crash... on the software clock.

Do I have to get over it and start using a WTF! Mac?
Is it much better how much?

FYI - my PC have always been using best hardware, no clown, no bottleneck...

I used MSW for years - since v3 !!!
Hated the number of necessary re-builds
Hated the "blueness" - not my favourite colour any more
Hated the bugs, freezes, and crashes
Hated the susceptibility to malware and viruses and its unreliability
..... but it was, at the time, the only thing that would run my flight simulators!!

I am now a Mac user because I trust it more the MSW - so far it hasn't let me down in the 8 years (for music and business).
Never had malware, virus or anything nasty. Oh it did crash once and that was caused by "Microsoft Office for Mac" (a little irony there!!)
Any critical "MSW-only" products that I HAVE TO have, I run under "Parallels" virtual machine - fabulous product and great performance - I can even run MS Flight-sim X with great frame rates under WIN-7 as a virtual "Parallels" machine.
However I am not a big music producer but all the musicians I know who do produce music (& who use Macs) seem to love it.
In summary, I recommend Mac to anyone who asks based on my experience with a very comfortable computing environment, reliability, oh, and outstanding Apple support.

You might as well stick with the PC. You are comfortable with it and it does a good job. Build a machine dedicated to music apps and keep other things off of it. MS is starting to take more of an interest in music with Win 10.

Since you hate the Mac there is no reason to use one unless there is some specific Windows issue you are trying to overcome.

I have both MAC and PC here. There's no difference whatsoever in either of them regarding reliability or general ability.

The only real difference between them in my opinion is the MAC is more idiot proof.

Build a PC using OSX compatible parts. Put in a second SSD or HDD and dual boot OSX and Windows until you figure out which you like best past the "new and shiny" bias.

People will tell you to get a Mac or don't get a Mac. Just go out and try one for yourself and make your own decision. It's like asking if you should drink Coke or Pepsi, iOS or Android. These debates are just pointless. It all comes down to you.

If you lined up some of the professionals you will be very surprised.
And yes, MAC is only and IDIOT proof computer, nothing else.
PC is better then MAC in some way but requires knowledge and experience.
I just built around 3000$ machine, my self. I dare to challenge anyone with
at least 8-10 000$ MAC against my PC.

I use a Mac as my main development PC (for my Java synth librarians) and general computer. I still use PCs in music due to the investment in software some of which is PC only. And I need at least one PC for Java testing on the platform.

Why did I get a Mac? As a long time Commodore Amiga user (anybody remember Bars and Pipes?) when support for the Amiga finally dried up I made the jump to a PC in 2001 as I was no longer interested in the innards of a computer, I just wanted something that worked. And you can say that about PCs and Windows. They might not be pretty, may be a little clunky but they (usually) work.

Fast forward to 2008, I had four PCs in my house: main computer, my music laptop (for live duties), my daughter's laptop and my music DAW running Cubase. All four of them had problems that I was having trouble solving (and I am no computer newbie). At that time I borrowed a Mac off of a mate of mine to do some testing of my Java apps on OS X. And you now what? The mac just ran! Started up in 20 seconds, shut down in 10, and never once crashed all the time I had it. The user interface experience was "Amiga like" and it made me realise how clunky Windows still is (much better than it used to be of course), but not a patch on OS X (IMO). When the Mac went back, I quickly missed it and I decided that my next computer would be a Mac!

The Mac is not perfect, but overall I think the experience it provides is much more pleasant than Windows.

I was an IT manager (A+/MCSE Certified) for 15 years, trying to keep afloat 47 PC's in three locations (14 of them in a bloody awful EPOS System).

When I retired, I bought a Mac Pro... Never looked back

Very nearly all musicians I work with use Mac. I'm only of the only few on PC. I stand by my choice and would build a hackintosh before I buy from Apple. But I still think the statement "it seems most music industries are on Mac" is correct. I don't run around professional recording studios every day but I've been to quite a few and have yet to see one running a PC. Which, by the way, is completely irrelevant because someone running a ProTools HD system has completely different needs than a bedroom composer. Nevertheless, I can't pretend it's even a "nearly even split". Almost everyone is on Mac, it's that simple. It could be different over in the US but going by Logic's popularity/market share I doubt it.
