Midi set up question

Post by pagey »

I'm using my kronos as the master keyboard and its connected to my m50 via midi.
I am using a footswitch to change from one sound to the next.
What I want to do is have the kronos in setlist mode and the m50 in sequencer mode and when I press the footswitch to advance to the next setlist sound have the m50 respond and advace to the next sequencer song.
I don't seem to be able to get this to work.
Is it possible?
I can get programs, combis and both keyboards in. Sequencer mode to advance but not in set list mode.

Any help would be appreciated

Create your Setlist and jump back to edit mode per song?

That doesnt work for me as some of the songs I play have different parts with different sounds and I dont have my hands free to switch between sequencer mode and setlist mode.

Im guessing the M50 doesn't recognise setlist mode on the kronos and thats why it doesnt advance to the next song when I press the footswitch :(

It's not going to be possible without some other piece of MIDI gear or software. To change songs remotely in a Korg Sequencer, you have to send it a "Song Select" message. Not a program change. The Kronos Set List Mode doesn't send Song Select messages when changing slots, as far as I know. I'm not even sure it sends Program Changes. But whatever it sends, you would need some MIDI device or software that recognizes the Set List slot change in the Kronos, and turns it into a Song Select message for the M50. Something like that...

How about a pair of Program/Song/Combi change footswitches side by side; one connected to the Kronos and one to the M50?

Just playing with this for a bit, this is what I found. Too bad this wasn't two Kronos units. You could do it, since Setlist tabs can be a Song or Program.

I was able to do a program Increment on the OASYS (which doesn't have Setlist). It was MIDI'd out to the Kronos. I had a bunch of songs on the Kronos Setlist and they incremented, as well.

Can you put the Songs on the Kronos Setlist, instead? That way, you can make program changes from the M50, with the Kronos Setlist following. When I tried this, the programs had to be in the same bank number as the Setlist number. For instance, programs from bank 3 (or C bank) corresponded with tabs in Setlist number 3.
