Midi keyboard for my Volca Keys

Post by Damocles »

I have been looking for a basic midi keyboard 25 or 49 keys for my Volca keys.

My budget is £120 and all I need is the keyboard and a midi out - don't need any fancy knobs or pads.

My searches have come up with USB midi's with no midi out - any ideas or recommendations.

Thanks

Hi Damocles,

I use a bit bigger controller from Miditech and their gear is cool.

Here is a smaller one, just as you specified.

Thanks Dragan.

I shall look into that make - the price seems reasonable too.

Best wishes

EDIT: Amazon had the 49 keys version for £69 - whoot!!!! :)

Damocles,

These controllers are build to last, solid aluminium and high impact plastic. You will like it.

Hi Dragan,

Mine arrived today. Overall it's fine, but, I am having issues with pressure sensitivity on some devices. TB-3 is fine, the key hit on the midi keyboard is the same, but on the keys and MC-303 I have to press really hard on the midi keyboard to hear the sound. The MC-303 is the worst with the midi keyboard as playing chords is really unreliable as there is no consistency with the key hits. I have used other midi keyboards with MC before and I haven't had this issue.

Do you have the same issue with your midi keyboard? The velocity/pressure sensitivity is really random making sensitive play impossible. I might send it back. Which is a hassle.

Best wishes

EDIT: I have been using the tb-3 as a sound module with the miditech most of today and it works as expected.....MC-303 is still unpredictable, could it be a polyphonic issue?

Damocles,

too bad to hear about your problems. I have no issues with the Miditech keyboard but I use it almost only for Korg Volcas (and for some plugins also).

It seems the trigger signal from the keyboard is interpreted in different ways by different instruments. To compensate this you would need a keyboard controller with custom velocity curves, I suppose?

Cheers,
D.

It does sound like there may be a poblem with your model Damocles .
Dragan you say yours works fine with Volcas?
TB3 is a fixed velocity type synth ,so not a good test.
I'd send it back.

Thanks for you input Dragan and Spheric El

The tb-3 is fine and Keys is OK with some notes dropping out. With the MC-303 even with a similar perceived key presses all is not good, for example, if do a scale up and down the keyboard with the same pressure some notes will not trigger.

I have contacted Miditech and they reckon it's a dud. It arrived in a poor state from amazon.co.uk, the box was clearly damaged ( disguised by an outer layer ) but the keyboard inside looked fine. I am now thinking my miditech is a returned product redistributed.

I shall return it. Thanks for your help.
