Considering I can only use 6-7 parts before I have to deal with voice stealing, well....

On the subject of Voice Stealing has anyone else noticed that having a delay selected, even if the ifx isn't switched on, it uses up( at least) one Voice?

I hadn't noticed it, but I'm not surprised. They want the voice in reserve in case you toggle the effects on or off I guess.

Roland's been making "Electribe type boxes" since mid 90es...

My experience with voice stealing are different from others, that's for sure. What I am running into (and to me it's not a bad thing) is similar to having choke groups. As far drums (with no choke groups) I get no voice stealing at all. I can have all 8 drum parts going at once, no issues. Synths and notes are a little different. Yes I can have every part filled with with drums and synths/note based parts and I will hear every one of them. However, like a choke group, the voice cut out comes in rhythmically, not like an error or a faulty pattern. I don't mind this because it adds to the spontaneity of new sounds/patterns I would have not gotten other wise.

Voice stealing after 6 parts? That's never been the case for me...that's just weird. Delays have never been a factor in my voice count.

My E2S plays 16 voices without any hickups. More I have not yet needed ;-) When adding a new part to a pattern I double check the following options:

Voice Assign
Alternate Mode
Filter = off if not in use
IFX = off, if not in use
Part Priority

I fully admit I make use of the effect and filter models on pretty much all my parts :)

Thanks for figure this out! In my case (E2S) it absolutely depends on which IFX is selected (even if it is disabled). I can use:

- 6 pads simultaniously when IFX is set i.e. to Delay (the 7th pad will cause voice stealing)
- 12 pads simoultaniously when IFX is set to Punch (the 13th pad will cause voice stealing)

So, it seems that an unused IFX uses at least 1 voice. But still very strange that other users can play all 16 pads/tracks simultaniously without issues!? Even when I set all pads to mono, filters disabled, IFX/MFX disabled, priority=normal... I never could gain all 16 pads at once without voice stealing...

yeah I got your template for E2 an took off all filters, I only use 4 or 5 in one pattern max! I get drops outs on average about 9 parts but it's cool, I can live with that!

Do you think they could provide a screen update which shows the 24 voice limit etc? would be handy to tailor patterns for maximum usage

My guess is that something like that would just eat up more CPU cycles.

Apparently so does Novation...LOL

I'll admit, the secret to my 16 part voice success is that I generally never use poly1 or poly2. I understand that poly mode eats up voice memory like a monster. For my playing style, poly just interrupts the natural way that I perform. I have been so used to working with non poly synths for so long I grown conformable with it. As far as drums, I rarely effect and filter the drums. The amount of drum sounds is so over whelming that there is nothing I am missing. Since I own the sampler, that just doubles the different types of drum sounds I could ever need.

Drool! thing is though the limitation by Korg is on purpose. They want you to get ES2 like SMK, then there's no voice stealing at all.
