connecting electric guitar

Hi all, I have a friend coming over with his electric guitar. I know little about electric guitars but would like to run it through Kronos effects.

My question is about connection. Is it ok to plug in directly?
Searching the forum i found few posts suggesting a DI box, though these posts were old and I did not find definite conclusion.

I assume by now many already connected guitars to Kronos, so if you'd like to share your experience that will be appreciated.

I tried plugging a guitar in directly to use basic effects on a gig without much success. Was finding it quite a noisy signal & I suspect the Kronos maybe wasn't getting enough level from the guitar. I discussed it on this thread before:

I ended up just using a dedicated Guitar effect unit as I didn't have much time to play around. But it may well be worth using some kind of DI/Pre-amp and seeing if you can get better results. If you do let us know & I may have another attempt!

I looked at my old MG10 Yamaha mixer, and recalled it has aux busses that can be used to route external effector. I have not used it so far, but I Ichecked the manual and it looks good. It preamps the signal before sending to aux busses, connection seems straightforward, and I'll give it a try.

It's more about connection. So you're connected via preamp I understand?
You mention using non-US guitar few times, is that related to the way it's connected (different standard?) ?

Also what's the story with active/passive pickups? I quickly educated myself so I know now that passive ones are plain magnetic coil, and active ones involve some power supply to boost the signal.
Is it safe to connect either to Kronos directly?

Hi there!

If you stop the video a few times - you can actually see the settings, plus, I say what effects I'm using.

I have a general purpose pre-amp that I put my guitar through before it went to the Kronos. You could use any pre-amp to do so.

I mentioned the non-USA made guitars because I didn't want my audience thinking I was playing a super high-end instrument and that's how I was getting a great tone.

I have put both types of pickups through the Kronos - passive and active and have had very good results either way. This is why I use a pre-amp before the Kronos - so I can adjust for the different types of guitars I put through it.
