Tips & Tricks: 01 Record a song directly on USB Stick QR

Post by QuiRobinez »

Hi everyone, here's the first video of my new kronos series: Tips & Tricks. This series will show the things that people have asked me about the kronos on my facebook channel.

The series starts with a really nice one :)

Kronos Tips & Tricks: 01 Recording your song performance directly on an USB stick as WAV file.

Not many people know is that you can record your performance directly on a USB stick or on the SSD.
You can play your tune and directly you have a WAV file on your USB with your performance.
From there you can copy it to your computer or burn it on a cd, or upload it to a website, whatever you want.

And the best thing, it's VERY EASY to do with this trick.

Thanks so much Qui! Great tutorial, as always, unencumbered by superficial dialogue. Right to the meat, which is great! Thanks again.

And, wil you please send me the SYS file from the BCR?

Ik kan je niet volgen op Face-book (geen lid!) is er ook een andere manier om je sounds te downloaden? (de oudere banken heb ik natuurlijk al...)

Thanks for the tutorial Qui. But I cant seem to find a way to make the ram/disk and default rec folder settings permanent. I mean, after turning off and back on, my settings reverts to ram and ssd.. :(

Thanks for the Tip Qui.

And if you Network to your PC or Mac you can move the files without having to unplug the USB stick.

How about a video showing how you manage your time in order to do all the videos? Ha ha.

Hi Qui!
Thanks for the tip! I was wondering if you knew how to record into a .WAV file but this time from a Set List instead of from a Program/Combi? If I want to record a performance from my Set List, how do I do it? Do I necessarily need a sound card or the Kronos is enough?
Thanks a lot for your help!

that would be great if that was possible, but it's not. This only works with one combi or program, it's not a harddisk recorder in the conventional way.

So if you want to record your performance through several programs / combis / songs in a setlist you need to use a sound card or what probably also works is using an iPad, in theory you could use that connected to the usb port. Then you record the audio on the iPad and it doesn't matter what you do on the kronos. (i'm going to try this out this week, to see if it works as expected).

Since a while I found out what you describe, but it's a very useful tip!

I still remember when I had my Kronos already a year, and a friend wanted to record some demo-sounds into a wav file directly at the instrument: I just didn't find the way to do it, by browsing through the manual.

Only after that incident, after more research and some trial and error, I found out what you describe in your tutorial.

It would surely not be a bad idea to update the OS with a more straightforward way of recording audio ('what you hear', regardless of modes) directly to disk or usb stick, with the options to choose between wav, flac and mp3 format.

yes, i use it quite a lot to record ideas on a usb drive.

There are a lot of tips and tricks on my to do list, these were all questions or suggestions on my Facebook channel or through email. So in the future i will describe features like:
- using general midi files and how to modify them when the sound has to be replaced
- how to setup a combi with splits and layering for live use
- how to control VSTs or Effects with the kronos
- how to use a wav file effect or vocal in a combi for live use
- sustain only certain parts of a combi (filtering system)
- how to make the most out of AMS
- how to use drumloops in a combi
- how to create your own drum set based on samples
- how to add drumpatterns to the existing collection
- how to use KARMA with other hardware synths or VST's
- etc.......

there are over 50 of these kind of tricks on my list which probably a lot of people know how to do but also quite a few have no clue where to find it in the kronos. For those i'm trying to explain it in the new tips and tricks series.
