Electribe 2 MIDI Out to MPX 16

Post by alpalle »

Hey Guys.

I think i have tried everything now and i can't really figure out how to send midi from my Electribe 2 to this Akai MPX 16?

I thought it would just work when i hit a note but i can't really get any reaction when I'm controlling the MPX 16 with the Electribe 2..

I've read that the MPX Should receive MIDI on all channels.

Peace

I don't think it has anything to do with the MPX, because the MPX Receive's MIDI from my BeatStep sequencer.

And the electribe works perfectly when im sending midi out to my computer..
Im pretty confused here .

I would triple check that all MIDI channels are what they are supposed to be. Do you have a way to monitor MIDI? I was gonna say you should check if any MIDI filtering is going on, either on the Akai or Korg, but it sounds like you have it working by other means. Definitely curious.

Do you got an idea of how i could check the midi channels?
I have turned the midi filter off on the electribe.

Are you sending to the Akai via the breakout cables?
There was a batch with dodgy cables.

Get a third, cheap synth ,borrow one anything and check if you can trigger that.Or if you are using USB then try the midi monitor suggestion.
Frenzies has a point.

Dodgy Cables

I did not know there was anything like MIDI Monitor. But my MIDI Monitor says I'm sending on channel 9 on my computer and it stops when I'm taking the USB cable out. That part did i not think about before, I'm sorry if i had to be aware of that, because now it seems like there is absolutely no MIDI coming out of the Electribe 2, only when I'm using USB.
It's the same result when i try sequence my MS 20 Mini with it actually.
Is there anything i can do to configure that?

I did not get any cable's with me from the store, only power supply. The cable's I'm using did i buy separately and they are working on the beatstep to mpx setup :?:

The E2 midi cable converts. You didn't get any?
Are you talking about sync cables out the Beatstep,or midi cables(5pin din)?
The E2 should come with 1/8 mini jack>standard midi socket converter. If you didn't get a pair I would go to seller and request some.

MIDI Cables

Post by alpalle »

Im talking about a mini jack to MIDI cables(5pin din) which i bought separately.
I did not get those cables to the Electribe and i did only get at power supply to the MPX.
Is it not possible to send midi out from the Electribe 2 via. mini jack to MIDI cables(5pin din)?

I would just really like to get this thing working … Do i need any cables now?

Oh okay, just to be clear you aren't using the mini jack to MIDI-din female break out cables that came with the Electribe, but a separate mini jack to MIDI cable? That might be the issue right there. Can you provide a link to where you bought them?

I did some research on this when I needed one for a DIY project I was doing and mini jack to 5 pin din cables that you can find (like the ones on Amazon) aren't for MIDI but for audio. I've only seen one place selling actual 3.5mm to 5pin din MIDI (male), but I ended up making my own cable. It is possible, but it is wired differently. Then the Electribe came along and it had the breakout cables.

Can you post a picture of the cables you have?

The electribe should ship with 2 x 3.5mm to FEMALE MIDI breakout cables.
This is what you need to send midi from the e2 midi ports.
To me that cable looks like a 3.5 to male DIN audio cable.
