Kronos Stage
::::A request for Korg::::
Please make a stage piano version of the Kronos with full SGX, EP-1, CX3.
Plus AL1 and MOD7 or KingKorg engine included,
Remove the sampling, sequencing and karma functions (most of us use our DAW for these things anyway)
Put the joystick above the keybed, not to the far left as usual for a nice compact board for small stages. Keep the control surface as is.
Release it in a RH3 weighted 88 and 73 version.
Provide the occasional new sample set for download, Nord style to keep the players happy.
And i'll hand over my credit card.

I have a Korg Kronos and Nord Stage 2 too... but a SV2 would be cool. There's something about the vibe of the SV1 which was appealing... I played a lot with mine.. I felt the cool look (esp the custom stand) and simplified controls were very attractive although the action was the weak point.
The Kronos could be seen as being a bit too much for gigging (would need a proper hard case as that screen is asking for trouble if using a softbag)... the 88 would weigh a tonne I am sure...
I used to carry my SV1 73 around on a trolley using the underground in and out of the city (Oslo) on a regular basis.. would not do that with the Kronos 88. I remember doing it with my old Roland RD700GX and it killed me.
My guess a Sv2 will come sooner or later with a reduced feature set on the bread and butter sounds as not too hit the main market of Kronos. Maybe something like the Krome in SV form.

I'm so tired of seeing Nords on every stage so i'm a little reluctant to buy one as I don't like to always follow the crowd, also I feel that the stage is slightly overpriced for the capabilities and features you get. And i'm not a fan of the keybed.
I do think It sits in the sweet spot for portability and build quality though.
I don't think the abundance of features is the only the thing that makes the kronos unique but also the quality of the sounds.
All of those extra features for me are useless, I basically use it as a stage piano, and I think for those kronos users like myself who love the variety of sounds that the kronos can produce a stripped back version would be perfect.
I think what Kurzweil are doing with the Forte 7 is awesome and is the only product out there directly challenging the Stage. And I don't get why Korg aren't challenging this aswell
Orangefunk:
I agree with everything you are saying except for the RH3, I played the original red SV1 and the K73 extensively and I find it to be one of the better feeling weighted actions, and I'm a trained pianist.
I sold the SV1 for a couple reasons,
1 - the curved top really annoyed me (so much waste space!)
2- I needed more control over the hammond sounds
3- no pitch/mod wheel.
And yeah, I loved the hands on control panel.
I think Korg really got something right about the SV1 Rhodes, because they aren't the usual sounding Rhodes that you find in every other stage piano these days, I felt they has a unique vibe.
So to release an SV1 based sample set along the lines of the SGX engine would be really cool.
It's a shame but I think a possible SV2 would be a couple years away yet considering they just release the black/red key SV1.

Yep, SV-1 is a cool board, but curved top was a ridiculous decision. You can't put anything on top of it, and there's really plenty of room to put some desktop modules there (say a Blofeld, or a MicroKorg, or whatever). That would've been cool if they just thought about that for a while, instead of doing it form over function.
Totally agree with you EvilDragon,EvilDragon wrote:Yep, SV-1 is a cool board, but curved top was a ridiculous decision. Add a flat top + pitch/mod wheel or joystick and you would have been able to add a synth module / controller or hammond module to complete the package!

This...SanderXpander wrote:It's just that scrapping sampling (yet retaining expandable sample banks), sequencing and KARMA would make practically no difference in price. You would just get a board with slightly fewer features. For the price, just get a Kronos.
And if you get the new Kronos 2, its depth is comparable to the nord stage... Its quite lean

Make stage piano with only full sampler features from Kronos + AL1 + CX3.
You can sample your kronos, move this samples to this keyboard and use it for live gig.
And make it lightweit. )))))

So basically the same control surface or something adapted a great deal (costing development money), with the same amount of money and the same kind of hardware (otherwise the engines wouldn't run), minus a few engines. Same thing as above applies. I hate to pee on the party but I just don't see it happening. The closest they did is make the Krome, which is single engine but at least uses the large streaming piano thing.
