Re: Problem of the modulation source
Yup, this is true.postman wrote:There is one issue I am not able to solve. Instead of looping through a sequence you can use a modulation source to loop thru the sequence (for instance the modulation wheel). The Wavestation will interpolate based on the Xfades, but the Kronos will not. So where you get smooth transitions from one step to another on the Wavestation, you will get hard steps on the Kronos.
For example I recreated RAM1 009:*WhSweep, where the modulation wheel is used to sweep thru the sequence. However on the Kronos you will get 16 separate steps with no blending in between at all.
It might also be useful to detail all of the Wave Sequence features that the KRONOS (and OASYS) have, but the original Wavestation does not. These include:
* Tempo mode, including swing
* Fade-in and fade-out shapes
* Per-step AMS outputs
* Note-on advance
* Duration modulation (very useful imo)
* Key sync on/off
…and other small improvements.

Kronos is the machine
Kronos is superb indeed! I am completely in love with the thing. So my remarks are certainly not complaints. The HD-1 engine has so much in common with the Wavestation that I thought it would be fun to look how far you can get.
Some things I still have to figure out are:
- filtering: what type of filtering was used in the Wavestation (12dB?). Keep reading that it was non-resonant but had an exciter: not sure what that is.
- routing of the four channels thru the effects to output.

Not at the Kronos now but wasn't there a couple of exciters in one of the fx sections? I think there was. What exactly is the exciter in any board? Is it just a program that will add in harmonics depending on the notes frequencies it sees?
Then in the wave station where was the exciter added in at the beginning sound level or later to the completed wave or somewhere in between?

great post, so close...
Thanks very much for sharing your hard work. I'll be trying out your tips very soon.
I just got a Kronos, and I love it already, but the lack of some basic vector/wavesequence functions is already really frustrating. I know the Kronos can do more than the Wavestation could, but it seems a little crazy for Korg to have skipped over the very basic feature of scanning smoothly through a wavesequence with a physical controller, or the very basic feature of being able to cross-fade manually between four oscillators in a patch. I also understand that HD1 has only a two-oscillator structure; a Wavestation EXi seems like a simple and obvious solution, though, especially when the MS-20 and Polysix were successfully ported to the Kronos. I'd actually pay for a Wavestation EXi as an upgrade.
Anyway, thanks again for sharing your hard work!
