pa900 vs pa 800
organgrinder ,thanks for the reply ...i'm in the atlanta area & can't find any of the music stores who stock any of the pa series to try one out to see if itwould be an improvement from the pa800 ,,,does the 900 have new improved styles, more real feeling that differ from the 800 styles??... i usually start an original song but than find a style to go with it ... i'm running out of styles on the 800 & with no updates i'm getting limited ...don't really need all the bells & whistles on the pa3x ,so the 900 might be the way to go if its an improvement... i've had my 800 for over 12 yrs so i got my moneys worth out of it ... also at the time i was in florida & a friend had a music store & i got it at cost ...but that connection is no longer there .... again , thanks for the help
Brick and mortar stores are being squeezed harder and harder every day by Internet retailers. And the manufacturers aren't making it any easier for them...
My local Roland store would have liked to carry the BK-9 but the Roland rep won't let them get just the one... They won't sell them one, they have to buy three
For a small retail store, this is absurd.
Old fashioned distribution and territorial models have been undermined by rampant Internet retailers. Once upon a time, a store would have had a territorial exclusivity deal, which would give them the sales potential to be able to buy several models in advance, knowing that anyone from that area would have to buy it from them. That's gone now, but the sales reps are still clinging to the old model
This is one of the reasons why it is getting harder and harder to find certain keyboards on local stores' shelves.

My dealer friend here finally sold out after being in business for 80 years. His dad started the business, primarily pianos and organs, and he took over maybe 25 years ago, shifting the focus to guitars, keyboards, amps, etc. as pianos and organs became less significant.
He wouldn't have lasted as long as he did, except for backline rentals at the casinos and expert repair facility.
What he hated most was people coming in, having salesmen explain, demonstrate, etc., and then going home and ordering on line to save a few bucks. He could compete with the prices, except he had to charge 9% sales tax. Just not enough margin to survive.
Now says he should have sold out sooner. He had a huge inventory of guitars, plus owned the building, and everything was paid for. Now he rebuilds player pianos and B3s out of his home shop, and is doing great.
The times are changing!

I bought one of those $1400 Pa900s. It was originally posted as used. When I inquired into the exact condition of the board I was told that it was a demo, but they sold it, so they would send a new one. They did. I was told by a member here that that store does that often with their keyboards to get around the MAP rules.
Hey, it worked for me.
