ESX-1 knob sizes

Post by eowyn »

Hi,

I'm thinking about replacing the knobs on my esx. Do you guys know by any chance the correct shaft sizes and which knobs do fit?

I'm considering the chroma caps from dj tech tools at the moment. Would they fit on an electribe?

cheers

well, on the electribe-forums someone said that the shafts are 6 mm. the chroma caps are 6,5 mm. that's a 0,5 mm difference. would there be problem with that?

It might work or may be a little loose. I would try and get the correct size. The biggest thing with the electribes, esp the emx esx, are the direction of the pointer or direction arrow etc. the smaller knobs on th esx the pointer is south facing or the pointer is lined up with the flat part of the potentiometer shaft. This is the opposite of most knobs which are north facing and its the opposite of the other knobs on the esx itself! Makes for a real pain in the ass to source knobs for it. I usually just find knobs on old electronics or whatev but replacing all of them with the same type might b tough. Also another way around this is if the knob itself uses a screw to fasten to the shaft. Then none of what i said matters, including the size: 6mm, 6.5mm etc.

aah I see, I didn't know about that, thanks! so then the chroma won't fit as well - what a bummer :( unless... I install new potentiometers. but I'm not skilled at soldering either.

thanks for your reply! Now I know what kind of knobs I have to look for!

Coolorcaps might be an option. Their website lists large and small caps with D-shaft orientations of 0 degrees, 90, 180 and 270. That should take care of the "south facing" knob issue.

woah these are awsome! thanks a lot for the link! they got more colors and are much cheaper than the chroma ones. I'll have to ask them whether their caps fit on 6 mm shafts. :D
