Would a 3D printer be any use?

I hadn't thought of that, although I'm not sure how average PC owners can scan objects in 3D that they wish to duplicate. It's also colored ABS.

Actually, after seeing StephenKay's picture, I chose to order a length of 1/4" aluminum rod, since I haven't got the facilities to work with something as hard as stainless.

I will cut a 1 in. to 1.25 in. length of rod, file the edges and bevel the bottom so that it doesn't impact the black matte when leaning to one side, and drill a 5/16 in. hole about 1/8 - 3/16" deep.

I still have to buy a hacksaw... :)

It won't be as nice as the original, but it should look okay.

That knob doesn't take have a lot of force placed on it and if you have a drill a small worded one would be much easier to make. Load a small dowel in a variable speed drill dial the speed down and use a nail with a chisel head filed in it to turn it or a piece of sad paper. I have used this approach for several items over the years it works very well.

Hey everyone. I want to thank you all again for your help and input. At the end of the day I used StephenKay's photo of the bottom of the knob and a stock photo of the side and made my own knob out of 1/4" aluminum rod.

Geoelectro, thank you for your generous offer.

I don't have much of anything in the way of tools but used the drill as a lathe to create angled bevels on the top (small) and bottom (large) and to drill the hole.

I started out with a 1" length but it was really too long. so I cut it down to 3/4", which I believe to be about the same length as the original, and it's just about right. It's tall enough to grab and move in a controlled fashion but short enough to rest my palm on the control surface and place the tip of my index finger on the top of the knob to move it around.

I couldn't drill a hole that would make a tight fit - 1/16" was too small and 5/64" was loose - so I put some of that gummy stuff that holds glossy mailers together on the shaft and it holds the knob in place nicely. It's strong enough to keep the knob from rotating but soft enough that I can still remove it if I need to.

I don't have any way to take a picture so I can't post the results right now, but when I get my camera fixed or replaced, I'll take one and post it here.

With regards to the other issue, it hasn't recurred, and that's a good thing!

Unfortunately, it's left me squeamish every time I use the sequencer to record something, now. I'm always wondering "when" it's going to crash on me and I end up saving to disc every two seconds (lol).

It's also left me wondering if I really have any warranty service at all since it was a demo purchase and hoping that nothing ever really goes wrong with it to put this to the test.

However, it's a wonderful instrument! There are so many sounds and ways to modify them that I'll probably never learn it all. I started marking patches as favorites when I quickly realized that it would otherwise be hard to find the ones I liked again after moving on to others.

I haven't even touched the Karma tabs, yet. I'm still playing with the main screens and the specialized EXi screens. It's one thing to just noodle and another to have a goal in mind and to figure out how to accomplish it. That's where the real learning happens.
