New KRONOS Sound Pack !

I have reached the point in life that it is just about the music, not the equipment. All three major manufacturers have reached a stage of development that is more than adequate for the average musician. I am no longer running after the latest and the greatest. I will be happy if my Kronos just keeps running. I am not going to dump more money into a machine that I consider to be marginally stable. Just my opinion, of course. I feel very bad for all of these people that have posted on here with their many problems. it is not just a few posts either. I am glad I purchased a second motherboard and I will probably need it. I wished the best of luck to Korg with their Kronos 2. I am sure they have ironed out a lot of kinks from the original release.

Everything else aside, the download speeds from the Korg site is pathetic. They should be ashamed of it.

Well, there are probably 10,000 owners hitting it at the same time. It's equivalent to big traffic jam in the city. I started the 5 gig d/l before I went to sleep last night, and it's almost done this morning. It's not inconvenient for me.

I think their web site does need some infrastructure improvement.

Or, you could spend a lot more to get a new Kronos, if you're desire is to stay current.

Here's the thing: A lot of older Kronos' are now out of warranty. Updating them to the "X" status is now not a warranty-voiding issue. We do that, (or not, it's not required for the balance of this post) and pay (in your case) 150 quid, and you have the same Kronos that's being offered for sale right now. You get fundamentally a new Kronos for a little outlay.

I've been in keyboards for a long time. A really long time. (Got my first synth in '73.) This is an unprecedented event: a manufacturer keeping your instrument current with updates not new hardware purchases costing thousands. No need to go spend all over again to get the features that have been developed over the last 4 years, you download them and install them for just a modest outlay.

I can only feel that this is a good thing. My Kronos will not obsolesce, just because a newer model has come out.

And to that, I say "Bravo, Korg!"

I agree. These are great times to be a keyboard or Kronos owner.

Mine is almost 4 yrs old and I see absolutely no way to replace it. People seem to forget, that it was common to replace boards every 2 or 3 yrs because new boards were introduced that were significantly better. I use to drop $10,000 every 2 or 3 yrs to keep my multi board rig current.

With the kronos, there is no need to return to that costly keyboard merry go round.

And NAMM once again has proven that no other MI company can touch what Korg has done with the Kronos

And for $249, it appears that I can positively improve/refresh program banks A and B, giving my Kronos a new sonic character. What was my alternative 5 or 10 yrs ago ? Spend $5000, $6000 on new boards introduced at NAMM ?

I have great difficulty finding something to complain about . But that is just my opinion from my experience

Kudos for Korg for doing the updates. This is compared to the debacle of my mighty Yamaha EX5 which is still a flawed diamond because Yamaha never fixed the well documented issues in it, despite a massive community campaign for "them to do the right thing".

My Kronos X was purchased with V2, and I had a free upgrade to V3 and I have the option (should I chose to do so) to get the latest sound pack that the Kronos 2 has. Bravo Korg!

Exactly what I am waiting for too! Someone said they were listed in the Kronos2 manual... but I didn't see them or couldn't find them.

I heard the demo of the Berlin piano, it's very nice and certainly useable. But, before forking out $250 buckaroos... I would like to have an idea of what I am buying as a "package deal". I am equally interested in the KRS07 / Sound Pack 3 patch name list for the 256 Programs & 32 Combinations. I think is ridiculous that you can't click on the icon and get the dang list.

Korg - Can you PLEASE post this list ?

Always with these things, if the value of the upgrade does not match the cost in your pocket then don't buy it.

I don't see the point in complaining about it, there are much worse injustices in life to complain about and even they are meaningless.

I imagine if you buy this pack and install KRS07, then your PCG would be the same as Kronos 2, as shown on this list. We would have everything that's on this list. Why do they want to sell us and expansion for choirs? Because they want to make the old Kronos and the new Kronos 2 to have all the same sounds.

There are a lot of discussion from users who downloaded the demo files and commented on the Berlin piano. However, has anyone "actually" made the purchase? (and successfully installed the KRS07 / Sound Pack 3).

If so, can you give us a little feedback about what you think of the KRS07 - 256 Programs & 32 Combinations? I am just as interested in those sounds (particularly the programs). Any program patches that sound amazing? Useable for live performance?

Knowing we all have wide tastes in sounds... there is always a few program patches that stand out from the rest. I am still on the fence... the KRS07 may be what makes me decide to dish out $250s bucks.

Among the two KRS07 banks, there is a lot of really useable stuff.

Of course the degree of approvement will differ from person to person, taste to taste, and purpose to purpose. So I can only give a subjective feedback. I only loaded patches I liked into my bank structure (I generally never ever load whole banks as they are), and could use about 50%, with another 20% being well programmed but not useful for what I play, and ~30% not to my liking at all.

If that sounds bad: it is a much higher percentage of sounds I regard as well programmed, than in most other of the half dozen KRS banks I have bought so far (of which I often regarded only~10-20% as being worth the price). What I like most, is that Korg finally begins to deliver more song related, well recognizeable stuff really suited (or well tweakable) for live play and recording, opposed to former "showcasing" soundbanks with lots of sounds not really useable in everyday context. Many musicians preferred to get going directly "out of the box" with Yamaha or Kurzweil sounds, which despite lacking sound quality often were better programmed for common purposes.

So Korg: go ahead with song related soundbanks: it's definitely the way to go, and MUCH more apprecited by musicians, than abstarct sounds with troo much effect sausage!
