iPad or Android?
Possibly a Dumb Question...
I notice LOADS of people are using iPads for music but I don't see many (if any) using Android tablets, I'm assuming there's a good reason for this but not sure what it is, without wanting to start a Mac/PC/Android war I was wondering if anyone can cast some light on the subject for me?

I think its mainly due to the amount and quality of available apps for the iOS platform and probably Coremidi. There might be some ways of getting that to work on android, but if thats any use would be another thing.
Another reason is fragmentation of devices and software versions. So many different devices to support with varying cpu power. Apple devices are limited and easier to develop for and also make sure your apps performs good on all available devices.

Cool, i guess that answers THAT question, but leads on to another...
which iPad should i be looking at?
I guess the bigger the screen the better but what is the minimum spec(cost) i should be looking at?
I'm thinking that its basically going to be dedicated to music, both running apps and as a hard disk recorder- simultaineously if possible...
Is That possible?

Android still has large latency so real time playing does not work well. Stuff like caustic where you can program are ok but iOS is miles ahead in terms of audio.
I run an iPad mini Retina an I can use all my music apps fine on it. Go for the fastest one you can afford, running multiple synths at once really pushes the iPad with audiobus. And get at least a 64 gig, you fill that space fast with audio. There are some great mastering apps so you can do final production on them now.

I firmly believe if you're going to get into tablet music making, you should be on the newest iPad you can afford. Then treat it like a lease and you can stay current every year versus hanging on to older iPads that feel underpowered:

IK Multimedia has announced that it plans to showcase low-latency Android music solutions at the 2015 NAMM Show.
IK Multimedia says that they will ‘present a universal solution that provides near zero latency and real-time audio processing’ on a wide assortment of Android devices (running Android 4.0 or higher and compatible with USB host mode/OTG mode) at NAMM 2015.
