Krome and Alesis SR-18 drum machine

Post by gexgecko »

I have recently obtained a previously owned, but pristine condition SR-18 drum machine running v1.02 firmware.

Everything seems to be fine except for one thing, it does not work as a Midi slave as the clock won't sync with my Korg Krome. I have set the "CLOCK IN" to "ON", which appears pretty much all I should need to do.
(it does, however, work with my Yamaha MM-6)

I've successfully used the SR-18 as a MIDI Master to drive the tempo on my other equipment, but it just won't work in SLAVE Mode.

All my other kit responds to tempo changes from the keyboard, but not the SR-18.

As I use my Krome to drive all my other MIDI kit via a 'Kenton Thru 5' MIDI Interface I don't want to use the SR-18 as a master, that isn't an acceptable solution for me.

From what I've read elsewhere I'm not sure that it will ever work as I want it to, in which case it's off to ebay for the Alesis!

as a reply to my own post.

Further tests have showed me that the Alesis SR-18 works fines with my Yamaha MM-6 and Korg Electribe EMX, but it doesn't work with my Korg Krome, X50, MicroX or MicroKorg.

Alesis support are struggling to understand why. I'll update here if anything worth reporting develops.
