Acceptable Midi Input Sources for Kaossilator Pro

Post by hfdz0 »

Hello all,
I am new to the world of Korg and analog synths, so please bear with me. I am trying to connect a midi / usb controller (a keyboard) into a kaossilator pro so that I can control the voice of the synthesizer from the controller instead of playing them on the touchscreen of the kaossilator pro. Will the Korg nanokeys work in this situation if I connect the controller using a usb to midi cable, say something like this:

Thank you for your help!

that won't work at all. those types of midi cables are used to connect to a computer (or ipad, if you have a usb adaptor). You'll need to use a standard midi cable.

If you search the KAOSS forum you'll find some threads that specifically deal with connecting a keyboard to a KPRO. I think SMK also has some threads on this, but his is with a korg padkontrol.

Thanks for the quick and honest reply roblabs.

A few good links I found for any possibly interested (and to pool the resources for myself):

Using a keyboard with K Pro

Kaossilator Pro + midi keyboard + midisolutions EPP

Midisolution's Event Processor Plus

This one looks like the easiest, although not cheap, option right now. It takes care of the dirty work for you, although you could do the remapping processing and programming that the EPP does on a computer with software like logic or perhaps Ableton.

Now, a question. Is there anyway to use the nanokeys as an audio source by plugging it into the female rca line in jacks on the kpro? I am having trouble finding a cable that uses the "USB Connector" female output as shown in the manual:

http://www.manualslib.com/manual/523471 ... nokey.html

Or can controllers like nanokeys only be used to manipulate midi sources that are a part of their hardware?

Thanks

nanokeys doesn't generate audio, its only a midi controller, unfortunately.
