New Kronos features for older Kronos?

Okay maybe I'm really missing something.... but doesn't tone adjust solve 99% of the problems discussed here? If we assume that you choose your program because it's almost what you need, then we can assume that the adjustments you're more likely to make are things like the ADSR, LFO rate, Filter cutoff, etc all of which can be adjusted via tone adjust, and saved with the combi, sequence, etc.

That's the basic idea, exactly: tweaks, as opposed to major changes. As Stephen points out, one place that Tone Adjust won't help is if you want to create or reassign modulation routings. Complex aspects of sounds, such as multi-velocity samples, patch panels, etc. aren't supported via Tone Adjust - which is where the new ability to edit Programs in context becomes very useful.

Typically, Tone Adjust lets you dig in a little deeper with EXi than with the HD-1, allowing more significant changes to the sound. EXi also tend more towards the "Absolute" control model, which gives you the same resolution as the underlying parameters. Almost all of the "front panel" controls of the SGX-1, EP-1, CX-3, PolysixEX, and MS-20EX (with the notable exception of the patch panel) can be changed via Tone Adjust.

If the adjustments goes beyond those, I'd be willing to say that at that point, you'd probably want to save it as a new "base" program anything.

In my kronos world, if I end up editing something too much to taylor one thing, I'll save it to a new location, and then edit it again to make it more versatile all around, and save it again.

Sounds a lot like my personal approach.

please correct me if I'm wrong, but tone adjust can now be saved with each set list slot now too... right? I know transpose is there, which is a big one. But even if tone adjust is not saved per set list and only per combi, program, etc, then to me, that is an infinitely more powerful than Yamahas approach....

Tone Adjust can be *edited* in Set List mode - handy for use with the CX-3, for instance - but edits are not saved in the Slot. They can be saved in the underlying Program/Combi/Song.

So.... Programs can be edited in combination and song mode but you still have to save them in the usual way - to a user location, for example? You can't edit and save a sound just in the combination/song without saving it to another slot?

Correct. Within the Combi or Sequence, you press the new function, EDIT PROGRAM, then you will be given the option to save that program OVERWRITE it, or to a new program location.

If you are using TONE ADJUST (which gives you access to a large portion of the program's parameters (but not all), then you can just resave the Combi. The Combi will keep the Tone Adjust settings. This option is what you are looking for, if you want to keep your original program untouched. Fairly significant changes can be made.

I've found from past experience that for me the best thing to do , if I want to edit a Prog, is to first copy it to a new location and then edit the new one. That way I'm not messing up any of my Combis that use that particular Prog.
I have often made several versions of the same Prog as well. They may have just subtle IFX differences but I label them as such so that I can see what is what.
For example, I tend to do this with lead sounds. I might have one with more delay or phasing. I would be using these sounds beside each other in Set List mode for live playing advancing through each one as I need.

The Kronos has easily enough memory slots that I think I will be hard pressed to use them all. I think that if that ever becomes an issue there will probably be an update to fix that. That and by then most of us with the first versions will have added a second SSD anyway. I know I'm planning on doing it. I've been wanting to for a long time now.

Maybe the instructions for replacing:
- Cut off plastic ends with a saw
- Chop down a tree
- Cut the ends from it
- Get some glue and stick it to both sides

I thought I saw last year some company in Germany was making replacement wooden end caps. There was a thread here somewhere.
