Start sequencer by key press

Post by anders.myrvold@gmail.com »

Hi
Is it in some way, possible to start the sequencer in the same way as Drum Track, by pressing a key?

I believe it is the START/STOP button when in SEQ Mode.

What I want to do is to press a key on the keyboard, not the start/stop button.

You can only fire up some RPPRs with a serveral key...The whole seq, I dont think so...
Love and peace to everyone :-)

You could assign a switch pedal
Kurzweil K2700, Kurzweil Forte 7
....as we forgive those who synthesize against us!!

You could record the seq to audio. Load it to the sampler and convert it to a program. Assign that program to a combination slot and one key. Set to program to "hold" so when you press the key it plays the audio all the way through.

I do this with backing tracks.

May I ask what it is that you are trying to accomplish to begin with?
Is this for live playback, home playback/practice, recording, what? I'm sure some solution can be found.

It's for live playback. I want the song to start when I play the first note of the song on the keyboard.

That could be a clever way to use backing tracks.
I just see a possible limit that you could confirm.
If I have a combination with one of the programs assigned in this way (with the hold option selected) and I change combination, the backing track stops to play? I imagine so but if there is a possibility to let the backing track to go ahead it would be a great way for me.

With SST, as long as you only change once, it should theoretically be ok.

Well I run from set list mode. Changing to a new sound does kill the playing track after the delay that is set in the set list slot. The default is 5 sec. I usually set it to zero and use slot changing as a way to quickly kill the track.

I don't typically change any sound during a song. I have a second keyboard MIDI'd so I can spread different sounds across both boards. I also make use of the joystick where I can have several different sounds layered but select between them with the joystick position. Recently for example I created a combi that starts with the joystick to the left for the intro and verse. During the chorus I move it to the right and both keyboards change sounds. Toward the end I move it back. I make notes in the setlist screen to remind me. :D

If you use sequences in set list mode, you can put the same sequence in 2 slots, but with different active tracks. Selecting another slot with the same sequence will not stop it, but will change which track has local control.

I think you can use a footswitch, but you have to assign it to do that in Global Mode, and as such, I belive that is all it can do once it is set that way.

The top of my wish list is this very feature - sequence in standby mode that begins playing with a keypress.

Next is to be able to set the footpedal to start/stop the sequencer or latch/unlatch karma in slots in set list.
