I love my M3-73 that I bought used. Worked great for a couple months, then the touch-panel started getting quirky. One day it basically didn't function at all. I could not calibrate it.
I went ahead and bought the $80 touch panel from PARTS IS PARTS.
(yes, I could have paid $20, maybe for same or better quality, maybe worse. I went with KORG recommendation.)
SURGERY is scheduled for this evening. I've seen some to links good instructions in this forum, including a decent youtube video.
IF anyone has a pointers...I'm LISTENING.
Thank you all.
Just take your time and good luck. You are more brave then me. I will be taking mine to a service center when I need that repair. I've already bought a replacement part.
I am just a little bit nervous.
There is a youtube video which looks like it will be a great help.
I also have a good friend who is very patient, I may have him separate the old panel. From what I'm reading that may be the toughest part.
One thing I didn't mention...the screen seems to screw up the worst on hot/humid days. I'm wondering if anyone else had this experience.
They say you can unplug the touch panel and clip the ends of the contacts, and that sometimes solves the problem.
However, while I'm in there, I'm just replacing it.
Well, yesterday felt like a good day. The touch panel is installed. Finished at about 12:15 A.M., therefore I did not install the module back into the keyboard to test all functions.
I fired it up, and the screen seemed to work flawlessly, even without calibrating.
Hopefully it is a long-term success. I don't want to have to do that again. LOL.
I will install the module into the keyboard today or tomorrow.
I'm hoping to use this machine at a gig Saturday night, however I may go with my old rig.
I also made my way up to the BOSE store in New Hampshire yesterday, and I'll be taking my new L1 out for her maiden voyage on Saturday!
Certainly I am looking forward to that. And a big thank you to Bob Foster's kid, (his name is Dean)
I would not have been able to do the touch panel without you Deano!!

Thanks for sharing!
My M3-88 has just recently started to show this behavior and I realise that I will have to make the same surgery as you did. I have yet to decide wether I should go with the Parts-is-parts screen or go on eBay. I might even try the "cut the connector" trick first, but, as you mention, once you are in there you are not particularly keen to do it again, what?
Parts is parts did not include instructions or double sided tape as some do.
He cost more but is the "authorized" dealer. Somewhere on this forum is a link to a very helpful youtube video. Or search youtube, you will find it.
Guy seems to fumble through but mostly shows how to get it done.
GOOD LUCK!
replacement of touch screen is easy for a tech,
one of the guys on e-bay has them for 40 bucks and the fit and work perfect.
they are to be the oem units.
took me 30 min to replace.. no kidding!!.. but then again it is my line to work on stuff like this...
I used an xacto (sp) thin pointed blade and it worked real fast to cut and separate the sticky tape from the digitizer glass as well as from the metal mount.
easy to control the blade so you do not get cut!! and is thin enough to slide for a fast cut separation.
if you are good at blade craft and running screws this is a fun project!!
if not find some one to do it or help you with it
