Back to my trusty Triton for the evening

Well, I bought my Kronos X 61 new in January, and never had any problems until tonight. I went to boot it up and got a loud pop followed by a quieter pop, and the Krono's splash screen would show for a brief second and then dead. I loaded the latest OS months ago and had no problems until tonight. Hello, Korg warranty service? lol

This is hardware issue , probably switching mode power supply , do not get upset since
you're under guarantee and just visit official repair center.

Thanks for the reply. I'm not upset, just bummed a bit. I thought that maybe the later run models were perhaps more immune to the hardware-related issues experienced by some, but my point is that having a spare on critical live gigs is a good idea. The ol' Triton is a pleasure to play, but I certainly missed all the Kronos can do and how it sounds. I've been a Korg workstation guy since I bought my M1 new the year it came out, and they're wonderful machines.

Always worth checking your power cables. Perhaps one has come loose? Its amazing how often a cable can come partially out of its socket.

Also check the socket on the K for the power cable being inserted fully.

Hope you get it sorted asap.

That's always my first check...cables. Swapped out the power cable, unplugged everything else. The board is at an authorized service center now.

Well, the tech called and told me that it is the power supply at fault, more than likely. It could also involve the motherboard. Korg's sending out a power supply. Since we don't know 100% that the power supply will put all things right, I'm going to forego any out-of-pocket expedited shipping fees for a chance of it being fixed for my weekend gig.

This is a bummer, indeed!!! You may want to invest in a voltage regulator to avoid potential power fluctuations. I never leave home without it. I hope for your sake this is an isolated incident.

Yep, I use a power conditioner...wouldn't leave home without it!

Well, a power supply and eight days later and I'm back up and running. Sure missed this board last week, but I must say, the Triton Extreme with the MOSS board sure can cover a lot of bases! I think I'll keep her.

KMP,

Very happy to hear that you got your board back. Is it me, or does the Kronos seem to have a lot of issues, whether its the keybed or the power supply, or whatever. This is probably not a fair statement, as I've yet to experience any problems with neither my Kronos 61 or 61x. I sincerely hope that these are very isolated problems and not inevitable.

I know nothing is perfect and I try to minimize any potential problems before they may occur. I learned the hard way assuming that I was plugging my rig into a 110v outlet and needless to say my boards and amp were not happy or ready for the 220v surge. I was fortunate to have the venue and sound company share in the expense of repairing my rig with no out of pocket expense. This is what led me to buying spares of my entire rig.

I know it seems extreme, but when you are tasked with playing piano, brass, strings, synth, samples, etc., you really become humbled playing on another person's rig not knowing where to go for the sounds you really depend on day in and day out.

Anyway, good luck and hope this doesn't happen again.
