Best way of using .wav backing tracks

What happens is, if you have wav files on your disk, and you go to disk mode.
You have a button ON your screen called "Play" if you have one of those wav files selected.
So in disk mode, select a wav file. You will see a button on screen "Play" , press it and you will here the selected .wav file. It is basically a preview button.

so the steps are:
- press the program button and select your preset the you want to play
- press the disk button
- press the load tab
- select the wav file
- press the green play button at the bottom on the screen
Personally, I really prefer using Mainstage for this. Or Ableton Live, depending on what I'm trying to accomplish. If I'm after a backing track (or after backing tracks) that are already arranged, everyone knows where chorus, bridge, etc. is, then I prefer Mainstage. But if I want to have some freedom to repeat choruses and/or play around with song parts, then Live is a much better tool for that.

That being said, I love using Mainstage for stuff like that. I alwas prepare a click-track for my drummer when I'm using backing tracks, so that my drummer can have a constant reference. If you have a decent drummer and he/she's able to play along, everything will be cool.
I had a show on Friday, we did two tracks like that (Personal Jesus, Thriller) and it kicked ass. Have in mind that it's a bit frustrating and scary for the drummer, as well, at least when you start doing things like that. But after a bit of practice, everything falls into place.
Live is a different beast, and I'm only getting to grips with it - live

i agree, for total freedom ableton live and a push controller (or any other controller) connected to the kronos (synced on midi tempo) is a very powerful setup for live performances.vEddY wrote:Personally, I really prefer using Mainstage for this. It's also really easy to create the loops from backing tracks in ableton live and keep them looping in ableton live. Every combi is then automatically in sync (also the KARMA modules) when you slave the kronos to the ableton midi clock.
Yep. The question remains - how to make Kronos/OASYS the master clock and use its tempo for that purpose, so that it can play back the click track. Mostly, these things are done by playing back a wav click track, looped or not. It's not hard at all to make the Kronos the master clock. You just need to set its clock to internal or auto and set up your other devices as slave. Where it becomes tricky is if you want to switch between random sounds/combis and keep the same tempo/beat/backing track running. That's really more of an arranger function.
I wasn't talking about the master clock capability in the "sampling frequency" sense (i.e. locking the ADAT's or S/PDIF's and whatnot to i.e. 96kHz), but in the MTC/SMPTE sense, while using KARMA to play back a click track that sync's to the Kronos/OASYS tempo. BTW, switching sounds isn't a problem for me as I always program in COMBI mode and use KARMA to switch sounds within one COMBI per song paradigm. But making all of this work is a bit of a problem. Which I can work around by using Mainstage with aforementioned WAV tracks.

I wasn't talking about sampling frequency either. I was talking about midi clock, as in song tempo.
If you don't mind using an adapted combi and staying in seq mode, and the only wav you need is the click track, I would suggest using a midi based click track, or even the Ks drumtrack, because it will automatically follow any tempo changes.

there's also a KARMA GE which can be used for a click track, from memory this was called 16th beat or something like that. With the rythm multiplier you could set it to 4th and then route it to the sound you want to use for the click track (for instance a percussion hit or beep).
I'm not behind the kronos right now, but i now that it can be done with that specific GE, i used the same trick for activating drumloops by sending a Note on every bar with that same GE, but you can definitely use it also for midi based click tracks.

As I tried to point out, it's the term "master clock" that's used in a completely different way. If you're in a studio, that means syncing to word clock via bnc cable or something else.
