Hey!
I sold my ESX about a year ago, and bought it back from the guy who I sold it to. The problem is that some of the buttons are now unresponsive. This is a big disappointment to me because this thing ran rock solid for a long time.
I am curious if anyone knows if you can clean the buttons/switches or anything, or if this is the likey problem. I haven't ever taken apart the machine because it's given me no problems so far, so I hope there's a simple fix.
I really hope no one sabotaged this machine when I wasn't looking... like smashed it with their palm.... I've had a not nice person bend the headphone jack on an EMX when I wasn't in the room and I didn't discover this until later when I went to resell it. I hate people who are bad-spirited and un-trustworthy. maybe I'm just paranoid and drink too much coffee.
I'm going to search and see if there's any info.
any help is appreciated.

That link you posted, interesting. I have just one button on esx which requires extra pressure to engage & it's the most pressed key on my pad so it makes sense that this would be wear & tear to the carbon, after all there are no micro switches under the pads, just copper pcb contacts. That 'caicote 44' looks harmless enough. I'll keep that in mind if things ever get worse.
I did clean the contacts on a couple of novation A-stations & that did work so maybe sometimes it's dirt & sometimes its wear.
Thanks for the post.

Beware, using contact cleaner on already crappy contact areas may wipe off the remainder of the conductive coating.
However, *do* contact clean the circuit board side carefully, wipe it clean afterwards.
I used a CircuitWriter pen to "colour in" my contacts, it worked a treat. You have to let it dry for a day or so, but the repair was a complete success, perfectly responsive buttons again.
