Guys i was saving for over 2 years

Post by BasariStudios »

...and i am about to splurge all of it:

Not 100% sure yet but is it worth it and not on this specific one but shopping around now.
Headaches with problems later and Pleasure comparability? All the hell with Cables?
Out of tune...this...that??? I was in love with this since i was a kid.

You should look at more modern modular stuff.

Check out the cost of repairs for such old equipment.

I was saving to buy something shocking for my self, something i would not
usually do...now...i don't understand my self if it is really what i want or if
it is just some kind of show off side as ,,YES I HAVE THIS''.
It might cost me leg and a half in future though. Modern Modular stuff is cool
too and i don't know much about it but i am open to it.
Also modern Modular stuff is probably cheaper too.

It looks impressive. Good luck with it. It's always cool to have at least one of the "look what I got" things.

You might want to hold off with a 2600 purchase right now, unless you absolutely want a 'genuine' one.
There is a repro project in the works called TTSH, it is a DYI project and it looks great. I'm totally getting one as soon as the store reopens after the first batch is shipped. Always wanted a 2600 too.

Check out:
http://www.thehumancomparator.net/

There are builders lined up that will build you one for a fee as well if you don't feel comfortable with a large DIY project.
If you are interested, check out the epic thread on muffwiggler:

Lol Eagle, we all want one of those ,,look WHAT i got''.
Bob, i am not necessarily planing on this one, i always wanted the
,,Grey Meanie'' but i think there were only 34 of those made, a person
needs to sell a kidney or lung for that.

To own such legendary synths is rocking :verycool:

If I could afford it, I would have a little synth museum ...

I have got two legacy synths myself, bought them new and never could part with them ... a Korg MS-20 and a MS-50. It's real fun to do patches with all those cables. But for making music today I prefer the use of midi, USB, PC editors, and last but not least, storing and recalling of favored programs on the fly ...

But for the show room and big eyes of visitors +1000

An Arp2600 is worth what ever someone will pay for it.

If it was me, I'd buy a kit. There is a guy out there who is developing a kit form of the 2600. I think it would be a fun build. I'd take a week of vacation to do it.

(edit: just read Chrutil's post above, check it out)

good luck

Hi Nedim,

I purchased one in the 70's new from West LA Music(goner). It was a great synth and I used it when I toured in Alaska. Funny note, the board froze during the flight from Seattle. It was about 0 when the plane landed and we had to perform at a club a couple of hours later...Yes it did effect the stability of the tuning.

It was capable of some amazing sounds! You will probably love it.

Good luck. :) :) :)

My first synth, but the grey-faced one.

You're a studio, so it might be worth the expense, but I can't really find a reason to own equipment that old any more. You can't play live with it, it has sealed modules inside, so if something dies, it can't be repaired, parts are Unobtainium, and frankly, what an it do that modern equipment cannot?

I've owned pretty much every great synth in the past (with the exception of a Minimoog- never had one of those) and except for the SCI Prophet-10, I can't think of one I would own today.
