Embarrassed ???

Post by 7keys »

Hello all, I have recently bought the kronos non X version I have connected it with my pc my os is 2.0.6 and win7-64bit, but the problem I am facing is I can't work it properly with the editor because when I make a change in the editor the kronos displays a message repeatedly over and over again
Message reads; (now receiving midi data) or sometimes reads (now transmitting midi data).
The sound is interrupted because of these alerts and then lastly the kronos gets stuck/hangs.
Also sometimes this happens itself without any editor changes.
:oops:I am really worried because |I can't work without the PC Editor and I have invested a huge amount of money in this board it would be horrific for e if this case not be dealt with.

Actually I was a Motif user from along time, its editor and sync connecting to the Pc were not a problem. I have also used the M50 with pc editor which was also fine.
If I am not able to solve this problem than I will have a very bad opinion about the kronos.
This is what I'm doing if this is not the right way please correct me, 1st I installed properly midi drivers.
2nd properly installed the editor there is no problems in the connection. I am sending a few pictures of cubase and kornos' editor in/out midi /audios and mor.

Please note I don't want to use the kronos audio interface because I have RME fireface 400 which is a great interface and I have connected my Roland and Yamaha key boards through this. So I want to record the kronos just as the others. I just want editor and kronos sync properly together and for the kronos not to get stuck. I need all the three things ( kronos, editor and Cubase5) connected with each other because I can't work without the editor on my pc.Please click on the links blow:

The editor has no Windows 64bit version so far.

Hard to believe in times when even homestudio users normally use 64bit environments for music making.

Actually, I seem to remember that the same people who make the Korg Editor for the Kronos (SoundQuest?) offer a full version of their editor in 64-bit versions, you just have to pay them for it ... which is a major source of disdain to most of the forumites here. Most of us feel we shouldn't have to pay for something that was provided for free (but doesn't work in 64-bit). If they hadn't teased us with the 32-bit version, we may feel differenty. It seems it was be easy (but at a cost to Korg) to contract out SoundQuest? to update our 32-bit version to 64-bit. I personally, would even be willing to pay a small fee if it would make this happen. Not sure we'll ever see it though.

It's been awhile since I read anything about this topic. I don't try to use my Kronos as a VST. I simply create an audio track in my DAW when I want to use it. Therefore, my information may not be current and it's possible things have changed. If anyone can update me or correct me I would appreciate being "schooled". I would love to be able to use it as another VST in Cubase 7.

The editor doesn't need a 64 bit version to work on a 64 bit OS, that's a common misunderstanding. The Kronos needs a 64 bit driver for Windows 64 bit, I trust the OP has installed that. The editor is only 32 bit (without an upgrade) which means it won't function as a VST inside a 64 bit DAW. It works fine within a 32 bit DAW, no matter which OS version you have.

Kronos Editor

Post by DavyP »

There has been a few threads recently about this issue. The position is still exactly the same AFAIK. The latest version of the editor will run as a stand alone editor under a 64bit OS but will still not run as a plug-in within a 64bit Application. It should work as a plug-in providing you are using a 32 bit application.

Therefore if you use a 32 bit version of a DAW (e.g. cubase) you should be ok, but if like many you use a 64 bit version of cubase then you cannot run the Kronos plug in within the application.

However you can upgrade to the full 64bit version of the editor via Soundquest which will allow it to run within a 64 bit application.

Firstly I want to say that I want to use my Kronos just for stand alone editor only I don't want to use it as VST plug in!
I can't work it properly with the editor because when I make a change in the editor it takes kronos time to sync with every edit and the kronos gets stuck sometimes and I am continuously receiving data receive and transmitting messages on the kronos screen which keeps interrupting the sounds.
Secondly when the Kronos and editor are both on I receive audio sound, but as soon as I open Cubase 5 midi track I don't get any sound, no midi signals lights and when I turn off the kronos local switch I don't get any audio sound at all. Again I want to say to Korg that I invested my money in the Kronos I have always had a good experience with Yamaha and please do not make me re-think my decision about changing over to Korg. I do like the Kronos but the Stand alone Editor is giving me a lot of problems because I can't use Kronos without PC editor So Please resolve this problem for me thank you.

I'm sorry you're having problems. I actually don't use the editor so I don't think I'll be much help. But just to be sure, you're on the latest OS and on the latest editor version, right?
Are you connecting the Kronos over USB or over midi? If USB, there were some issues with USB3 ports on previous Kronos firmware. You should update the Kronos sub-system firmware if you haven't already. If you have any USB2 ports (NON-USB3) available, try that. Also you could check if it makes a difference whether you use midi or USB.

I'm being firewalled at the moment  but the firmware & OS updates are here -

http://www.korg.com/support (look under Kronos)......

There's detailed instructions on how to upgrade :-)

Can't help with your specific issue as I drop-kicked the editor (totally useless to me!) and I'm on Mac.
And when I did try it - it worked (albeit rubbishly!)

No doubt there are others who can help.

Just curious, have you transferred all of the Kronos data to the editor and then saved it to be loaded it each time you start the editor? This will help somewhat with the transfer and receive time when selecting and editing.

- Or are you loading/transferring All each time you start the editor? This method will turn your recording session into a transfer/receive session..
