Firmware
I updated my Kronos, loaded the sounds and all went well. I did not update the firmware. Can anyone help me understand what this is? I have searched and I am thinking it only involves linking your USB to a computer, which I do not do. I guess what I really want to know is do I need this? Probably a stupid question, but just upgrading to the new OS scared me to death!
Thanks,
dan

Hi Dan
Firmware update is a bit like the OS update in concept but relates to the internals and hardware of the Kronos.
It is important!!
You should perform the Kronos firmware update. It updates the internal firmware of the actual keyboard.
The process requires that you have the correct MIDI driver installed on your PC/Mac - then all is fine.
The update requires that you are connected to your PC/Mac but.. PLEASE follow the instructions exactly as presented and you will have no problems.
If you are in an area where you frequently lose power or are suffering bad storms, then delay the firmware update to a safer time.
(That's just paranoia but important to be aware of - the process MUST NOT be interrupted once started - it only takes a few minutes anyhow.)
Having said all that - it is not scary and is very straight forward - you will end up with a fully vaccinated healthy keyboard
Cheers
Pete

I actually do not have a Mac or PC! I have my iPad, and borrowed a laptop to get the download. Can I do it just like I did the OS update? I know I am behind the times, but my desktop is crashed, and I haven't gotten a replacement. I know, embarrassing right?
Anyway, I guess that was why I was confused be caused every time someone posted, they mentioned USB or Mac/PC, so I thought it did not really apply to me. Hope I am making sense.

The OS upgrade essentially just copies a bunch of new files to the internal disk while the firmware upgrade loads new firmware into some memory chips -- so the processes of upgrading the OS and flashing the firmware differ by necessity.
I have not done any of these upgrades yet, but as far as I understand, the firmware upgrade is done by launching a Windows or Mac program that causes the new firmware to be loaded where it belongs. So, unpacking the firmware upgrade, reading the instructions and then launching the provided program should do the trick. Make sure that the power is not interrupted until the firmware upgrade has finished.
Don't be afraid. I have upgraded the firmware of many appliances and machines -- and never had any problem. If it were really dangerous, Korg would not let the users do this.

firstlovedan,
The Wolf is correct you need to get a mac or windows based computer and follow the instructions by pressing enter & pause at the same time then turning on your Kronos, you must then have an USB A to USB B transfer cable. If you have an Audio interface hooked up you can use that cable that is connected to both your Audio interface and your Kronos, make sure on the Kronos you hook up to the square USB slot, that is how I did the firmware update. Then just follow the directions from there and very quickly you will be done. Good luck .

Make sure you have the latest midi drivers loaded into your PC for the Korg kronos. The link is on the Korg Kronos support page.
https://www.korg.com/uploads/Download/U ... 14_r6).zip
Once you have these installed, it should recognize the Kronos and you should be able to run the rest of the update.
Hope this helps.

Hi again Dan
Just a paranoid question (I know it was specified above) - are you using the correct USB cable?

Just checking....

I would try a different port on the mac also. I also made sure that when I did the update I did not plug the usb b connector into the kronos until it asked. I don't know why that would matter but it is easier to plug and unplug from the computer when you can see it but maybe try it on the kronos just in case.
