Korg ESX. Where can I find good samples?

Post by japan1981 »

Does anyone know of some good places to download samples for my ESX-1? I am interested in any sounds: drum machines, sound effects, vocal bits, video game noises, samples from movies, etc. I find that actually manually going in and sampling things is very tedious, and I'd like to just dump a bunch of sounds onto my machine.

Also, how do i do so? What sort of memory card to I buy, and how do I transfer the stuff from my computer to my sampler? I mean Im guessing its pretty simple, but I don't know if there is some weird trick i need to know about it or what ever.

Sampling things yourself is a great way to create your own sound. If you want to do something original, there's no way around it - it takes a little effort. And the ESX makes it SO EASY.

If sampling on your sampler is too painful for you, then you don't deserve a sampler.

Not quite :3dshocked: Making samples yourself on the ESX without using something like Audacity and the ESX editor (both free and legal to download) is indeed painfully slow- too slow for a serious sampler to enjoy. These two speed up things by a factor I would say realistically of about 150.
As well as the web (you can also look up things like 'top 10 free sample websites) there are plenty of cheap sample CD's on ebay. There is one eg that has 50ish drum kits all on ESX files and also includes the editor.
Buy second-hand synths, sample them- then sell them again and buy another.
Record the TV as you watch it- listen out for sounds you like- then play it back and sample it.

A cheap turntable and a few records is always a good place to start.

here are a lot of looped sampled electribe-compatible instruments:

And these webplayers can be handy to directly sample into your esx (from smartphone e.g.):

Another way is to just load samples from .esx-files on your electribe:

Aaand..you might also just download some free soundfonts from the web and load them into this tool

i run ableton and protools on my computer, i love sampling myself personally. Just google "free sample packs" and you should be well on your way, but i feel more gratification recording whatever the hell i can get my hands on.

try gameboys, speak n spell, old movies, really your imagination is your limits.
