Usually I press a red button on my Cassette Tape Recorder
seriously :
my "small setup" is a Boss multitrack recorder
with "a few" external effects , no Computer.
If necessary , it connects to the PC as an audio interface
and it comes with software .
For an "Advanced Looping Jam" I use the computer.
Some people work with Korg Kaoss gear
or with external loopers.

The Mini WD internal looper does not save ,
so you still would have to go --> PC or similar
"big setup"
4 channel audio interface
tascam us428 (driver updates since 10 years
)
how do you (plan to) manage your recordings ?
