Korg PA3X with FCB1010
Good evening everyone...
I'm a portuguese musician... I use the accordion with my PA3X and i use a EC5... but when you play accordion just 5 buttons are so far away from what you need... So i've been looking for a alternative... I've founded the FCB1010... But i've been looking at the manual of the Korg PA3X and i cannot find how i can connect it to FCB1010... Midi Channels or anything else... Have you any table with the channels or something? I would like to explore more functions, but the essencials are basic like select STS1,2,3,4 ; Variation 1,2,3,4; PADs...
Can anyone help me how to connect this two? Thank you.

I have had the FCB1010 working very well with PA2XPro and can't imagine that there is much difference with the PA3X.
I strongly advise that you download the free FCB1010 editor software - it makes programming the pedal much easier - you can download it here:-
http://host.mtnsys.com:81/faq-fcb/PCEditorBeta.htm
Depending what you want to use the pedal for most CC will work fine on channel 1
I used mine for volumes on UPPER 1 and 2 (two pedals)
Selecting particular performances and rotary effect control
I just used the MIDI information from the PA2X manual (same in PA3X)
I will look up my notes - I haven't used my FCB1010 with my PA3X yet but I intend to.
Cheers
Pete

I want to use on the first 5 buttons variation 1,2,3 & 4.
The top for STS 1,2,3 & 4. And then maybe on other reg the pads. But the question is... Fcb1010 will be connect at the MIDI IN. ANd then on midi menu which option I choose? You talk about the channel 1. All the major function will be transmitted by that channel? Sorry about all the questions but I'm afraid to buy it and then can't used it how I want...

Hello,
I connected FCB1010 to PA600 as keyboard has no possibility to connectthe EC5.
Considerations:
FCB1010 has 100 combinations: 10 banks, each bank 10 presets.
Access to the combination:
1. Direct access ON - to access each combination you have to press two buttons, not very practical for the Keyboard
2. Direct access OFF - you are in particular bank 0 - 9,
now you can access to one of the presets over one of the ten buttons (programming the VARs, FILLs, whatever MIDI accessible)
In this case you lose posibility of 2 switches (UP and DOWN tastes on FCB1010)
I needed almost one day to come over this filosofy as I wanted to program more functions in one preset.
NO! each function hay to be programmed in one preset, in other way you recieve more Program or Channel changes at the same time, last one wins.
Next stage:
Each preset has possibility for 3 program changes, 2 control changes (programmed code), 1 note change, 2 control changes over pedal. You can adjust the MIDI channel for each of them.
As you need only one program change for VOA or FIll or...
more of them can be used for more MIDI devices.
My case:
I am controlling PA600 FILLs (over auto FILL - so no need for variations), Break, Endings... with 1 program change per preset - progrsm changes over MIDI channel 7 - Control channel on PA600.
I am controlling also older keyboard iX300 to use some good sounds where I select 8 banks (each with 8 sounds).
Banks in iX300 I select with program change on FCB1010 and with one preset in the bank - MIDI channel 1 on iX300 UpperKb (the same in all banks - preset 9 in my case). Other sounds I select from the keyboard with the 8 knobs (they are not visible under my PA600...)
Pedals; with one I control the expression (Upp, Low on PA600, Global channel) and also volume on iX300, second is stil free and could be programmed for some function...
Pedals should be programmed in each preset! They start to work when the first preset is confirmed.
Consider - if you use PC software for programming the FCB1010;
Program change codes in PA600 are from 0 - 127,
PC software they could be 1 - 128, so you have to put program change codes incremented by 1.
Best wishes with programming,
let us know the results,
or put the questions.

I think in my case i can access the functions directly... I'll use EC5 (i've don't use the EC5 original... i've made a cable to convert the 6 switchfoot from Ketron to use the first five as EC5 and the last one i use connect to a Jack and use it as sustain (Damper). So the idea is use EC5 with damper to use Start/Stop, Fill 1, Fill 3, Break and Vocalizer. Then FCB1010 to select the STS's, Variation 1,2,3,4 , Intro, Ending...hotkey wrote:Hello,

I still use EC5 as there are several functions which do not have MIDI documentation or are explicit SYSEX functions.
I find the combination of the FCB1010 and EC5 the perfect solution.

You're right Pete! That's my Ideia. Use the functions that are available to midi functions on FCB1010, and the rest with the EC5. I was just saying that i made a cable to use with my old 6 switch pedal from Ketron (FS6) connected to Korg because EC5 is made of plastic and the FS6 is made of steel... And with this solution I can have 5 functions plus damper on the same footswitch. Is a kind of Y cable with the FS6 connector in one side, and then a EC5 and Jack connector on the other.karmathanever wrote:I still use EC5 as there are several functions which do not have MIDI documentation or are explicit SYSEX functions.

....awesome...
you can also use the FCB1010 and assign a pedal to activate the "assignment" port on the PA3X (you'll need an extra cable for this FCB - to - PA3X assignment port) - I used this for rotary effect toggling (or anything you want to assign to the port within the PA3X).

Well, I'm using a volume pedal on that "assignment" port. If I pass the expression function (that I'm actually using on volume pedal) to FCB, I don't need anymore that volume pedal, pass the damper to FCB too and the Y cable I refer on the last post will be free to the assignable connector (Jack). The two fcb's volume will be to wah wah effect and expression volume. (Up 1,2 & 3 sound's)karmathanever wrote:....awesome...

Well... The FCB1010 Midi Foot Controller arrived today... I'm trying to configure it manually because i don't have the "Midi Interface" to connect it to a computer... Anyway... I'm trying to, for example, use on BANK 00 at the first switch the START/STOP (Style) and it is the PC#103. I've programmed it already with the PC#103, connect the MIDI cable on midi OUT/Thru on FCB and on midi IN on Korg Pa3x. It doesn't work...
I've followed this instructions:
1 - Press the switch you want (example BAK 00 / Switch 1)
2 - Press and hold the down button on the FCB1010 foi about 5 secounds. This puts the FCB1010 in programming mode for preset 1.
3 - Press te up button once.
4 - Press the 1 button once, and it should begin to blink.
5 - Press the up button once. The display should begin to blink showing the current PC command.
6 - Press the PC command (example 103)
7 - Press the up button once
8 - Now press and hold the down button for about 5 seconds.
You have now programmed the 1 button to send a PC command of 103 on MIDI channel 1 to your midi device.
What i'm doing wrong?
If anyone can share how did it, i will grateful.
Best regards...

@Ghoulman@
When programming up MIDI devices such as the FCB1010 you need a way to "see and check" the exact MIDI messages and MIDI channel number that are being transmitted over the link.
If you have a PC laptop you can get a $20 MIDI to USB adaptor and free software to analyze the MIDI messages. Then when you can "see" what's happening you are a step closer to getting things working.
You need to know the MIDI channel on which the messages are being sent and then in the GLOBAL MIDI configuration settings on the Pa3x, ensure that that channel is set to enable MIDI control messages, check the Pa3x manual for the correct setting. The default setting will not enable MIDI control messages to be received on the Pa3x.

Rob
