Apparently, KingKorg was dropped on his head when he was born, which is why everything is laid out backwards, with effects on the left and OSCs and envelopes on the right. KingKorg is what you get when you ignore 50 years of synth history and user feedback.

But at least now I know where Korg is headed, which is not in the direction I care about. I've been gradually moving to Massive, FM8, and softsynths of various kinds. Native Instruments has been making more interesting synth models than Korg has for years. Examples are Reaktor Prism, Spark, Skanner XT, and Razor. Frankly, I can get more out of the free Synth1 with average PC hardware than what KingKorg promises. I can use my Z1 or TritonExtreme as nice midi controllers with aftertouch to control my softsynths. Since when did we decide that aftertouch wasn't important? Nobody asked me. I didn't get to vote. There's zero chance I'm going to buy any synth over $500 that doesn't have aftertouch. All the Novation synths in this range have aftertouch, Ultranova and my x-station. The Synthstation is another fine midi controller for softsynths, having fully assignable knobs for the synth structure. I'm sure someone will buy the KingKorg. Not me. Not anyone I know. Not anyone I talk to. Maybe the King of Fools, or King of Pain.

£1k is acceptable, I'm sure the sound quality will be far superior than the Gaia (from personal experiance, it couldn't possibly be any worse!). I need a copy of the owners/parameter guide to see what kind of ams routing/matrix it has.

I was considering the Sledge, but that's now on hold for the time being.

It's simply foolish to put the effects on the left and OSCs, filter & EGs on the right. That's analogous to putting a joystick on the right. What were the engineers thinking?

Ey guys technically the R3 and MKXL have the filter on the right because you have to assign the Cutoff to a performance knob but then again... I guess it doesn't matter when we're talking about three octaves. KK, being a 61 would make playing a dirty bass line with your lead hand and doing a filter sweep a pain.

I often have the filter center and resonance on the mod and pitch wheels of the R3, on the left, where they belong.

Whatever it may be, it has the dumbest name ever given to a synth.

Well I mean in that case I'm sure you could do the same thing with King Korg's joystick by assigning JS+/- X/Y to cutoff and resonance.

Yes, I suppose that I could pay twice as much as a Radias for an ugly gold synth without aftertouch and a stupid name, with everything laid out poorly on the panel, by assigning the filter center and resonance to the joystick, except that I don't have any need or desire to do so. I've got a Z1 without these problems, along with my other selection of synths. I will be recommending that anyone looking to buy a synth should wait to find a Radias, Z1, or better yet, a Triton Extreme with a MOSS, or an M3 with Radias EXB.

I had the chance to try the KK today. NAMM is not the quietest place to try something but i raised the Reso pretty high and then played with the Cutoff knob and didn't hear any stepping. I was pretty impressed. And the MS-20 sounds amazing!! Glad they've put a Midi IN, i just can't stand those minikeys!!

ow... KingKorg costs 1299 at sweetwater.com now
So it is a combo of KingKorg + Monotribe (for analog sound and sequencing) for 1500$

After knowing KingKorg doesn't have step sequencing - R3 is still a good variant. I wonder if Korg will still produce R3? possibly no...

oh of course, King Korg is quite impressionably the "fools gold" of synths what with the champagne finish and all. I would never suggest it to anyone. And I don't know WHY Korg is saying people asked for a product like KK. Who asked? When? Some sales guy in a video said "people on the forums". Really? lol. Cause I thought everyone was looking forward to a RADIAS successor since last year, not some watered down impostor.

I do think KK is pretty much the SV-1 of VAs. It will definitely find its niche.

Is it any hassle to "lean across a bit"?

The Osc's don't really have any "performance" controls to speak of, and all the old vintage gear I've ever owned has had the VCF & EG's to the right :)
