USB Midi
Over the last couple of years I have tried, unsuccessfully, to set up a MIDI interface using the device port on the back of the 800. I thought that the new midi install software might help. It didn't. When I "ENABLE" usb in the media menu, I get the "Windows" sound for s new device, but cannot see it on my computer. Furthermore, none of the tabs in the kbd (e.g., Load, Copy, etc) are active. In other words I have NEVER gotten any indication that the device is indeed "enable". Anyone have suggestion(s)?
I think I may be a little unclear as to how to use the device port on the back. I've tried to use it both as a MIDI and a typical USB. Let me ask simply, first, when the "enable" icon is hit & my computer makes the sound that it recognizes the device, is ALL action from that point forward done on the computer? None of the tabs on the keyboard are activated. Then, finally, can that port be used either as a MIDI interface OR a typical usb port. Sorry 2b be so dumb, but I learned a long time ago to be humble!
Yes it can be used as a USB connection, or it can be used for DATA transfer. When you press enable it is turning it over to DATA transfer exclusively and then the front panel and touchscreen operations are suspended.
You do not need to do anything apart from connect the USB cable to enable it to be used as a MIDI interface. Also run the Korg Midi Driver BEFORE connecting to the PC.
You need to run the Korg Midi Configuration Tool each time you connect to a DIFFERENT usb port on your PC (only needs doing once for each USB port though as it saves post configuration for future use).
If you do not get it to run, also check how many MIDI devices you have installed on your PC. Windows OS has a limit of 10 installed devices (less on Windows XP and earlier) . But it still allows the user to keep installing more even though the limit is reached..But it will allow ONLY the first ten installed to be used.
This is a rare thing as most users would not even get to four installed MIDI devices, but worth checking though...
