Hello,
I am starting to play around with my EMX, had no time till now.
Well, I had understood that I an use it to merely manipulate an external source of sound, but I have connected both an mp3 player or in another occasion my monotribe, to the audio-in input of the EMX, and I have noticed that I can listen to the audio-in sound ONLY if the "Synth Oscillator" is in "audio-in+combo" AND if and as long as I press the ribbon controller.
Forgive me the language but that sucks very much, becuse I may just want to connect my monotribe or whatever to the EMX to let the EMX manipulate the other instrument's sound, WITHOUT having to stay there with my finger on the ribbon!
How can I do that?
I have searched in the manual, in the forum (really, keyword "audio in", Forum Electribe), tried any combination in the EMX, but nothing.
Thanks!

Don't worry, you will make mistakes anyway, but if you worry they will be more.
The second is actually "audio in plus comb" as in comb filter. If you want audio in playing all the time, hit the audio in thru button near the top left of the unit. If you want to add effects or gate the audio you have to switch steps on for the part in the pattern and hit play. The reason you can hear it from the arp is that for that oscillator option the arp just opens the gate.

Oh, hmmm, thanks.
I do not have the "whole" vision of what you explain, because I am not yet master of what the EMX can do.
So, the audio-in through is not an option for me, because the audio goes untouched to the outs, right? And I want to effect it with the EMX filters and effects etc.
So, how can I do what you say, in a way that I will have only the audio-in playing all the time, with no synth or drum parts from the EMX? Only the audio-in, effected, in a continuum (=no gate, just the sound always there, using the EMX as a mere effect processor)?
It is enough if I create a new pattern?
Because yesterday I tried using the D64 pattern for example, which is empty (no Korg presets) but pressing the ribbon it was not only opening the gate for the audio-in but also playing the synth note.

For the part, set all steps to on. By default the gate time should be 1.00 which means it would be uninterrupted.

Here's exactly what to do to make your EMX an effects processor for a mono audio-in signal:
-Initialize a new pattern, getting rid of Drum1's beat while you're at it.
-In "Part Edit" mode, select a synth part and dial to "Audio-in Comb". Make sure the "Keyboard" button above the 16 step keys is turned OFF and highlight the first step.
-Now change to "Step Edit" mode and make sure the blinking cursor is above the first, lit step. Using the down arrow near the left edge, go to "GateTime" in the Step Edit menu
-Change the gate time value for this step to 16.25, this will leave the gate open LONGER than the pattern length (16 steps) so that your audio-in signal flows seamlessly.
-You can now apply FX, filter, etc. to morph the audio signal. Hit Write twice to save and have fun!

It works.
The second method works better for me than the first.
Still, even if 16,25 is enough to cover the 16 steps, I prefer to set each step at 16,25 and activate them all, or play with which activate and which not, to use the ribbon (global, arpeggiator in reverse) for other effects.
Well, I had quite lot of fun tonight.
I must say, it is not that I plan to use the electribe only as effect processor, just, wanted to know how to use it as mere effect processor when I need.

Bye!
