I was looking over the Voice Name List for the drum kits and thought it was odd that for each kit pretty much every key has a drum sound mapped to it. However, when I load, say the Studio kit, there's no snare on E3, where there's supposed to be, but the hand claps are right there on D#. I tend to use the Acoustic Kit (but, admittedly, haven't used the drums much until now) which seems to have drums mapped to all of these keys (a few blanks here and there, but...)
I never thought to double check all of those mappings to see if they were actually there!
I've always noticed these gaps and just sort of accepted it as normal until now. So I'm wondering if some setting got screwed up early on withhout my noticing it, or if this is just the normal way drums are loaded into ROM. None of my keyboard or wind sounds have any problems with keys.
I'm pretty sure this is a noobish oversight, but I don't see anything in docs about how or what is loaded when that squares with what I'm observing here. Any starting points for settings to look at would be greatly appreciated.

E3 plays a snare with Program Int A-018 Studio Standard Kit on my M3. All keys play something with that program. It works ok when I use it in a combi and song too.
Maybe you could try reloading the drum kits. Go to Global Mode and select Load Preload/Demo Data from the menu. Then select Drum Kit from the "Kind" dropdown.

Thanks. Yes, I thought there had to be a way to reload them, and so now they have been restored. I just wish I knew how they got mucked up to begin with, so that it doesn't happen again.Bald Eagle wrote:E3 plays a snare with Program Int A-018 Studio Standard Kit on my M3. Spotnik,
One possibility could be that there might be a slight difference between the kits in the old stock M3 and in the M3 expanded.
Since it is possible to do a partial load that doesn't include global data (i.e., drum kits) that may be where the glitch came from; either because an "Expanded" kit got loaded without the samples being there or an "old" kit's sample got moved to a new location.
The reload would have brought everything into line.
I believe you have the option under write protect to block changes to global. If you turn that on then you should be protected from accidental overwriting once you have everything loaded the way that you want. (A partially protected system may also have been responsible for the glitch.)
--------------
One of the things you've probably discovered is that the percentage of the key-map of common samples between kits is pretty high. That makes making custom User kits a bit easier - you only need to change the 10 or 12 main samples to have a new kit.
