Need more switches: rotor speed and combi (program) change

Post by laandodeman »

As you know, for external input you can put a jack cable in the Kronos for a swicth, for a damper pedal and for a swell pedal

I use the switch for toggling rotorspeed on the cx3, the pedal for swelling volume and the damper for sustain on the piano.

Now, I also want a pedal to program (combi) change. So I lack one. But I don't use the midi in.

So what's the best solution? Is is possible to find dedicated pedals with specific midi cc messages, for example rotor speed on-off or program change?

Assuming you wouldn't want the damper pedal to affect the Organ, you can edit the Program AMS to use CC#64 (sustain) as a rotor speed or rotor off/on switch. Then in the Combi, tell that channel to ignore damper messages...

It's free if you do it like that. And one less pedal to worry about :-)

That sounds like a very intelligent solution! Thanks.

You know...after a decade of switching the speed with my feet...I bought a Hammond/Leslie. I still don't feel nearly as comfortable juggling a hand off the boards to switch the speed. I've thought about having a foot switch installed on the real guy...ha...

Popmann - I have a pedal for my Nord Stage2 rotor but only ever use it if I 'really' haven't got a hand free. I like to use my hand too to switch it. The button's a bit of a smaller target than a real one though!

Hope it all works out laandodeman!

For my organ sounds I'm in the process of changing the damper pedal assignment so that it controls the "Leslie" speed. The only thing to remember is to not hold down the damper as it is still a damper and on organ that can become quite a mess if you are using it during a palm smear.
I, myself prefer to have a switch of some kind as opposed to the "real" and old school toggle. I never really liked it on a B-3.

Can you explain the steps to have the Kronos control rotary speed for organ patches by using the damper pedal?

This is the default method used on the Kurzweil [for example], and it works great!! Obviously hands free, one less pedal, and the damper pedal is a lot bigger to hit with my foot than a small foot switch.

Thanks in advance!

Jeremy, if you put your organ in a combi you can midi filter out the damper function, it'll still control your leslie.

As far as I have been able to see, that only works with sounds that use an IFX for the Leslie speaker.
What I've done in prog mode is to re-set the rotary speed switch to CC #6$ which is the damper pedal. You just have to be careful though. It srill also acts as a damper but if you just tap it quickly you never notice it acting like a damper and it changes the rotary speaker speed. It's not perfect but it works. I'm just going to have to reset a lot of my organ progs and learn how to use it. In combi mode it becomes tricky because I sometimes have other sounds in conjunction with the organ so I'm better off to just use the joy-stick. My foot switch is set for program advance.

Why not just use the IFX then? It's the same leslie...

I could but I haven't figured out how to turn off the leslie in a prog that already has it as part of the sound.

Now that I've thought about it, it's pretty easy. Doh!

I'm just going to have to convert a bunch of progs to combis now.
The next problem that needs fixing is what to do when I have a combi that also uses piano as well as organ and want to change leslie speeds. If only there was some way of having the foot switch do multiple tasks. In one instance I want it to advance my set list but then I want it to change leslie speeds. Hmmmm.
Seems like I'm always asking for a solution to the imposible.
