DIY Trinity Repair/Service Questions

Post by brussell »

Greetings all,

Ok, so it seems I may have the dreaded 'output' issues. I only get very soft output on the right side from the headphone jack (been that way as long as I can remember), and recently my main outputs have been putting out only static. That being said, last week when I was playing out and it happened, I gave the area above the output jacks, on the top of the keyboard, a gentle whack and it started working again.

I'm assuming something isn't right with the connections, which I will need to get inside the board to repair whatever's wrong.

Anyone have a service manual, or even pictures of what I need to look for and do in there? I certainly don't want to make anything worse. I have no idea how to even take this thing apart, and I can't afford the fee for professional service.

Thanks!

As to the disassembly, turn it over (using padding to protect the joystick, screen, switches and keys), then unscrew all screws on the base plate except the ones attaching the rubber feet to the plate.

You can then take it from there - but perhaps you should aske an experienced repair person or DIY-er friend if you don't feel comfortable with the disassembly and lurking around between cables...

slightly wiggle the jack and see if there's play.if there is, find the solder points for each jack, then heat them up and put a llittle pressure on the jack so it feels like its seated well in the holes and hold it till the solder cools. the post must be heated until the solder runs down it for the solder to stick. when done, there shouldnt be any wiggle in the jack. .

its a common fault it happens to all korgs due to the fact that the mechanical strength is relied upon the solder joints

the other issue with the outputs is also the dual log volume slider they fail

and you get problems with stereo audio if you plug a jack in either left or right socket you get audio

but if you put both in you only get audio out of 1 channel

also check the head phone jack as this also suffers the same problems

also to stop there being to much strain on the socket by phono cables pulling on the jack

use the right angle jacks phono cables as they are close to the body of the synth and dont put extra strain on the sockets like a standard jack plug does as its further away from the synth and gravity put pressure on the keyboard sockets
