MusicRadar & Roland

Post by KorgisKing »

MusicRadar says

We thought you might like to know that Roland UK swung by the MusicRadar offices at the end of last week and gave us an early glimpse of a big new synth product that the company will be unveiling (along with several other non-synth products) on 31 August.

Unfortunately, non disclosure agreements prevent us from telling you much more at this stage, but what we can say is that the new product is designed to play a central role in your studio and celebrates Roland's past and current technologies.

Feel free to speculate on what you think might be coming your way in the comments below. We'll be bringing you a selection of teaser photos tomorrow and full spec/pricing details on Friday.
Synths: Kronos 61, MicroKorgXl, Ensoniq EPS 16+, E-MU Proteus 2000, Mo'Phatt, Planet Phatt, Xtreme Lead-1, MP-7 & PX-7 Command Station

Geeeze, I hate to spoil the suspence, but here it is. I hope korg follows for us with too many keyboards.

Korg should give us at least all the classic Korg sounds. Enough with the piano & strings Kronos owners deserve all those classic Korg synth sounds most keyboard players r not sound designers or programmers. If Korg were 2 load us up with at least all those classic Korg sounds more people would buy a kronos it's as simple as that. Most Keyboard players buy synths 4 synth sounds not pianos.

No surprising news to me.

After the Jupiter 80 seems to have been selling very poor, the rack recycling begins after just one year. And since the insufficient controller surface of the JP80, which, together with some weird OS structures and the complete lack of sampling and sequencer, while not even being a 'performance synth' on Kronos level due to missing controllers, kept many potential customers from spending a lot of money on it, it's only logical for Roland to make something out of what they have, providing nice sounds at a better price point for users, plus the JV/XV/SRX oldie samples in the SRX boards.

I think it's the best thing Roland could do in a problematic situation. Whoever wants the classical Roland sounds, will probably get lots of them without spending too much money.

This is definitely something I'm interested in. I've kept my Fantom X6 with SRX cards because I really like the sounds I can get out of it - The Orch II, Brass and Vintage SRX's are vital to me. Plus the fact I've invested many, many years learning how to get the best from it.

Now I've got the chance to keep all those sounds (plus the remaining 9 SRX cards!) but in a nice neat package. I guess it depends on the price...

...but I'm not sure if I'm ready to give up the Fantom just yet, the old gal still has plenty of life left in it, and complements my Kronos perfectly.

Well bollocks! After throwing down for a Jupe Eight Zero AND just ordering an SRX-04 for my XV-5080 they come out with this! I wasn't really interested in another Jupiter but what really piqued my interest and got my attention (other than all of the SRX's) was the RSS technology.

I will have to hear the thing first but it may just end up being be the perfect complement to my OASYS and V-Synth's. Of course now something will have to be ejected from the Soundworld lineup...is the the 01R/W? The Wavestation SR? The JV-1080? The JV-2080? The E-mu Proteus 3 World? (never...always got to have that lush tamboura!) The K2000?

Choices choices! Oh well, I guess I could always end up upgrading to a 48 channel mixer!

We find out tomorrow what's "under the hood."

Most keyboardist buy keyboards for sounds
Keyboardist who buy workstations buy them to program ;) those who buy them for the sounds are usually disappointed!

Kronos out of the box 7/10
Kronos after I programmed it the way I like my sounds 100/10

Sigh.... and I hoped it would be a replacement for the ever-aging Fantom G. Still, looks quite nice, it'll probably come with a hefty price tag too.
