Kronos Freeze-ups
I have had my Kronos 61 for about 7 months. It is running on OS 1.5.0 and the 1G ram expansion has been installed. Over that time I have had 2 random start-up failures and 4 freeze-ups in sequencer mode. It has never stuck on a note, or anything else that is similar to a freeze-up.
After the 2 start up failures, I simply turned it off, waited 15 seconds and then rebooted - it booted up without problem. The sequencer freezes all occured during long sessions in midi event edit mode while executing the "done" command after extensive track edits. I have used the Kronos a lot during the 7 months that I've had it and, other than these 6 events, it has performed flawlessly. I have been careful to switch to a new mode (program, combi or sequence) before shutting it down because of the SSD.
I believe that the 4 freeze-ups in sequencer mode were all after hours of extensive track edits. I am not ready to call this is a "bug" or anything, but the common thread is that they all occured after hours of track edits in midi event mode. Has anyone else experienced this or does anyone have and idea what could be happening?

Have you changed, added, or otherwise modified the stock ram sticks? Freeze ups associated with incompatible/bad/mis-seated ram sticks are common!

I can confirm this behavior in 1.5.2 OS version.
It used to happen to me on the OASYS, as well.
Not sure or have a clue of why, but If you dont, I do, I call it a bug.
It happens to me mostly when you are in Sequencer mode, working on Midi Event Edit mode, mostly.
When doing extensive edinting in Sequencer mode, It may freeze, and you loose all the stuff (but audio tracks , if any, as those are stored in the SSD)

My keyboard froze 02 times on separate occasions. Both times i was on RPPR and doing anywhere from 10-15 takes for each RPPR. My keyboard was powered from morning till evening. I had lost my work both times but managed to create it again. Now i keep saving every 10-15mins incase of a freeze.
Otherwise i have no problems at all with Kronos.
Hope Korg can find out why it behaves like this.

Charles
EDIT: I'm on OS 1.6

EDIT: I'm on OS 1.6
Yesterday, I experienced two times that the sequencer froze, but I'm pretty sure about what happened:
The first time I was working on a song, editing different things, and frequently playing back the song to listen to the changes. By doing the latter I always pressed the Locate switch plus START, and in addition I switched on and off the DrumTrack, too, plus switching around on different KARMA scenes (KARMA was active on all four modules), and also RPPR was activated and playing.
At some point when wanting to play back a newly edited version, I think that I pressed the switches too fast after each other (I used both hands at the same time, like pressing the DrumTrack switch with the left hand, and pressing Locate using the right hand)
That must have been to much for the KRONOS: It switched to Disk mode and then the touch screen as well as the Control Surface and most other buttons where not responding any more. The only thing that still worked where the Sequencer switches (START, STOP, LOCATE etc.). Had to switch the KRONOS off and back on again to recover it. My latest edits were lost, of course.
The second time, frezzing happened in Disk mode right after I had saved the song. The reason I think was that I pressed the Sequencer switch to go back to Sequencer mode, while the screen was still showing the "Just A Minute" window. Still the song was saved appropriately.

Last night while i was recording, the whole system froze. But this time, there was a sound(pulse type, i think) and found the below text on the left hand, top corner:
System Error Id:000 Line:2679
../cobjectmgr.cpp
Psoc version error 02!=00 Id 123
I was pressing the locate and start button almost simultaneously(i kept doing this repeatedly to hear my recording) when this happened on the main screen of the SEQ mode.
I was lucky this time, as i kept saving every 10mins or so. Hope Korg checks this out and hopefully find out the bug that's causing the system to freeze in Seq mode. I know computer based DAW have better sequencers, but i've been so used to Korg's sequencer since owning a Triton Extreme(2005) and its just about right for the style that i play, that i haven't bothered to try anything else. Maybe one day I would be able to sit down with a person who is good at computer based DAW's sequencer and learn.

Although Korg probably reads this thread, I think it is wise to forward this message and accompanied text to them so it can be fixed.LTEDT wrote: System Error Id:000 Line:2679

Any updates with this bug?
I'm a Kronos owner with this same bug. I posted a nwe topic here:
http://www.korgforums.com/forum/phpBB2/ ... 92a619069d
Has somebody solved this?
I solved this problem temporarily muting the MIDI trakcs with more events while recording. Really don't know what's going on with Korg Sequencers

Had another sequencer freeze last night whilst receiving moderately dense CC data via the DIN MIDI input. Error message displayed in the top-left corner, but didn't get a chance to capture it as I was working on a project with a deadline.
In this instance, I was using my PC as the sequencer and the Kronos was acting purely as a multi-timbral sound generator in sequencer mode.

Today I got the same problem in set list mode, running OS 3.1.0 (old Kronos).

As our Kronos get some age, and yrs of steady use, its possible that we will see some intermittent problems.
I don't gig, strictly home recording. I am 99% in SEQ mode. As a defense, I save frequently, to the SSD and USB.
I keep my Kronos powered down when I have other plans. I believe heat build up in the chassis might be a contributor to intermittent freeze ups.
My home office can get warm + 80 degrees F.
On the other hand, if my Kronos was new, I would keep it powered up for a while, to give it a good test or break in, what have you.

It didn't happen after a reboot, so I'm fairly confident it is a software problem.

I have a first-generation Kronos 73, & I was working yesterday in Seq mode recording a song, and had 3 freeze-ups - all while the "rec" button was on, and it happened as soon as I played a note. Re-booted twice, and it happened again two more times, total of 3. At that point I gave up... went back 3 hours later to make sure it would play my songs in SEQ mode without freezing. It did play them without any freezing, so in my case it was the REC button & actually recording something that triggered the freeze.
I'm using OS 2.1.2.
Is it possible this is a bug that has been corrected in the later OS ?
I haven't gone to the latest operating system bec I heard there are polyphony issues and it re-organizes the location of the PROGRAMS.

Each OS release had a list of what was fixed. The US Korg site might have all that note detail.rickster1 wrote:I have a first-generation Kronos 73, & I was working yesterday in Seq mode recording a song, and had 3 freeze-ups - all while the "rec" button was on, and it happened as soon as I played a note. Is this the 1st time you used the SEQ ? Or 1st time you used it in this particular way ?
Maybe I am not reading your post correctly- are you attempting to press keys/playing notes while REC is lit up ?
That's is not true about programs reorganizations, it is characteristic of Kronos 2. I didn't suffer from any polyphony issues from the day I installed v.3.1.2. I agree with GregC, that you have to check bug issues from every OS patch, from v.2.1.2 to v.3.1.2, to be sure, and after that if it is all ok for you to update your OS. I wish you luck trough this process, believe me it is easy!rickster1 wrote:I have a first-generation Kronos 73, & I was working yesterday in Seq mode recording a song, and had 3 freeze-ups - all while the "rec" button was on, and it happened as soon as I played a note.
