In the past I have always wanted a hard copy of the manuals. But looking at the pictures of the original poster, I can't imagine lying in bed with a telephone book. Browsing through the manuals on an iPad or any tablet for that matter is much more convenient.
I'm sure the trees wouldn't argue :-)

Not having complete paper documentation isn't an issue for me. On rare occasions - I'll print a page or two of section that I'm working with on a specific issues.
I do it in a similar way, just printing what I'm currently interested in.

In order to save paper, I print 4 pages onto one A4 paper - it's still readable.

For me, a big advantage of having a hard copy is that I can easily make notes on the paper.

I'm wondering if it is possible to make notes to a PDF (in a PC application).

I'm going to have mine printed up when I go back to the States this fall. I never use the PDF version. I just prefer printed material.

Ah.. Printed Manuals. I miss those days!

Not a fan of PDF's. The Tablet idea is good for manuals. Too bad Tablets are still stupid expensive for what they are IMO.

yes that's possible,

on the PC you could use the free pdf reader: http://www.nitroreader.com/

i'm using an ipad, and there you can make notes in the pdf's and there is a seperate section where you can read the notes you've made and jump directly to the corresponding page. You can also bookmark pages in pdfs.

I find it really handy to read manuals on the ipad or on a pc screen, because the find function (find text) works in the complete pdf.

I wouldn't want to go back to printed manuals.

Thanks for this tip ... I don't have an iPad, but that reader sounds interesting.

What app are you using on the iPad to read the .pdf's and have the above functions?

I am using iBooks. Using iBooks, I can search (find text), and bookmark pages, not get the other functions, such as highlight, make notes etc.

When I'm reading an iBook, and select a word (or words) the menu comes up, allowing further functions: Copy, Define, Highlight, Note, Search. However, I can't get the same thing when reading a PDF.

the full version of Foxit Reader on the Ipad does that.

I've actually been using the lite version for a while to display sheet music and such, but I just upgraded to the full version to get those features.

Even on a "regular" PC, Foxit (IMO) is such a better reader than Adobe's POS.

I keep all my keyboard manuals on a 10.1" tablet as well as ~2500 fake sheets. Gotta love it!

I'll stick with PDF's...for all the reasons mentioned in this thread. Actually, with the Kronos, I can almost always get what I need by using the HELP function on board. I LOVE that feature!

If you have the full version of Adobe Acrobat (Acrobat Pro X) you can make notes.

I use the full version of Acrobat to turn all types of documents into .pdfs (MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, email messages).

Thanks, Dan.

I checked it out. GoodReader seems pretty complicated.

I'm trying another approach. I'm using Dropbox. I put the files in Dropbox on my computer, and then open in Dropbox on the iPad, using Adobe Reader. Experimenting at this stage.
