I'm glad you are happy with your Kronos.
(btw I don't make songs so for me the question is not relevant).

It really depends on what idea hits me. If it's effects or a realistic instrument, or a soft pad, it's my DX7. If it's something analogue-like, like a lead or bassline, I go to my beloved Minimogue va, usually finding after that that resorting to my MK is the best option.
Cheers! Yoa

Yes, I too center my world around the Kronos. Wnen I sit down the first keyboard I lay my hands on is the Kronos. About 2% of the time I force myself to play another keyboard without the Kronos.
This is when composing, jamming, screwing around.

The "go-to" is whatever inspires you - my go-to inspiration is often altogether something other than my synth (tho' that has a lot of unexplored territory yet).
Sometimes a new CD or just a chance hearing of a song online or on the radio or in the background of a movie or TV will make me search out or write a new combi.
Listening to the way sounds are put together in a score can give me ideas for that too, one of my own combis I call "Hefti Brass" after Neal Hefti, who arranged for Count Basie and wrote the Batman TV theme. It's a combination of trombone in the left hand and muted trumpet v/layered with french horns and marimba - it's really nice for doing light jazzy stuff (think the Odd Couple theme) without being overly bombastic. That little "doink" of marimba just lightens the whole mood.
I sometimes write on other instruments - starting on bass guitar, for instance, is great (for me at least) for composing metal riffs and funk - and tunes I compose that way sound completely different from the results I get if I sit down at a keyboard to try and do the same thing.
