I used to think the same way, until I took time to a/b a few times. You really just can't beat the sound quality of VCO analog such as the Monotribe, vs any digital "virtual" analog. Trust me and take the acid test for yourself. You'll never look back, as you'll find the digital to be flat sounding in comparison. That said, if you can't afford analog, digital nowadays is pretty good.X-Trade wrote:EMX.
I don't really think that the 'analogness' of the mono' series is a defining feature.
The sound from comparable digital units is still superb.
One step up from a Monotribe?

Hello, everyone.
I think the very best, *analog* grooveboxen, with the most features, are the Radikal Technologies' "Spektralis 2":
http://www.radikaltechnologies.com/spec ... sizer.html
2 VCO's + 2 DCO hybrid synth, plus sampler w/ 4gb memory, plus VCF farm, plus real-time/step/grid sequencing = KILLER ANALOG BOX.
Price: $2,500 USD.
Just saying..
Unfortunately, no one who can afford one makes any grimeyness on them, lol.. This guy's pretty good, if you are into minimal techno:

It's all of course relative to taste, but I'll take a Nord Lead 2x over a Juno 60 or a Polysix any day, I'll take a Waldorf Microwave over a JP6, I'll take a DX-1 over a JP8 or an OX-a, I'll take a JD-800 over an OBx, point being: some people are not all that blown away by that analog sound, to some of us it's just an ingredient that sometimes works and sometimes doesn't; for example: last month I traded my Moog Voyager OS for a Nord Wave; the Voyager was COMPLETELY useless to me and was just gathering dust. To each his own I guess.dexfx69 wrote:I used to think the same way, until I took time to a/b a few times. Not defining except the fact that the MS20 filter and analogue signal path is the complete reason why Korg releases the Mono* series in the first place.X-Trade wrote:EMX.

korgs: MS20, MS20 Mini, MS2000, KP1/KP3, Kaossilator, microX, padKontrol, DS-10+, Electribe ESX-1, ER1-MKII, Monotribe+midi
Whew. No offense, but that comment is totally untrue. You need to do more real life research of analog sound compared to digital. The whole POINT of the mono series is true VCO analog sound which is VASTLY superior to digital "virtual analog".X-Trade wrote:EMX.

"Aint nothing like the REAL thing".
Just sayin.
