Fantom X controlling the EMX-1

Anyone using their EmX-1 controlled via a Roland Fantom X?

I hooked it up this afternoon thinking it would be a piece of cake but found it didn't work quite like I intended!

Midi out, fantom x to midi in on the emx-1. Set emx to slave and the fantomx to master. set the fantom to midi channel 10 and pressed start on the fantom x expecting the emx to start but there was nothing. Also wne I set the emx to external midi clock it seems to disable the transport controls on the emx and no patterns work.

Am I missing something?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.
